In the 1980 Oregon election, a ballot measure to ban construction of further nuclear power plants in |
|
This is a line from the Wikipedia page on the Trojan Nuclear Plant. A faulty reactor that the people fought tooth and nail. It was decommissioned years early and dismantled. But, it all started with the vote to ban new plants. It stopped the state from being over run with nuclear plants. As we all know, once they are there it is incredibly hard to get rid of them... but stopping them from being built in the first place saved us.
I highly recommend that every state pass such a law.

Account of some heavy duty activism in the early seventies, Northern California does not have one.
The one that the Powers that Be planned on installing one near the coast, and on the San Andreas Fault.

Point out that there are very few reactors near the earthquake zones in California.
If they had had their way, California would be littered with these plants. And now they take the credit!

i wanted to go watch the demolition so badly but couldn't. I was always amazed by trojan...you'd be driving to the coast along the columbia river...such beauty, then you'd come around the corner and there was this gigantic cooling tower between the highway and the river. It was like you were suddenly in a science fiction movie!
I do not like atomic energy but I didn't like that groovy tower!
