6. Depending on when that picture was taken I would say the smoke is from the explosion
that occurred, due to hydrogen build up.

Units 1, 2 and 3 have all had explosions. 2 Fires at unit 4.

I suspect units 5 and 6 will have hydrogen explosions as well.

16. It's more likely steam from the color of it
any sea water that hits those hot fuel rods is going to vaporize.

The whole complex is fucked. The only thing they can do now is try to limit the damage any way they can. There is no way any of them can ever be used again. The damage is too extensive.

18. Using seawater to cool the rods already destroyed the plants' future utility.
Not that they would have been saved without the seawater, either.

Now, bury them in concrete, like at Chernobyl.

But faster that any burying of the reactors, the authorities will try to bury the truth.

24. Someone said yesterday that it was too hot for the concrete
not sure who made the statement...or if it is accurate...but they said it was too hot still to enclose

22. I agree they can't save this plant
But hopefully they will be able to cool down the reactors and stop the radiation leakage. It's just a terrible situation.

you inhale more of what's now floating in the air. ;-)

Oh, well, it does put the danger from guns into perspective. ;-)

the concrete shell and the spent fuel pool.

But if you have some enlightenment as to why the OP's source is somehow incredible, I'm sure it would be appreciated.

Your second image shows that the bottom of the pool is well below the top of the containment vessel and concrete shell.

If we can't seem them, I'm not sure how we would expect to see the pool.

Doesn't seem possible that it's "intact". It's at least covered/filled with debris. No way to tell the water level of course, but radiation levels would be much higher than reported if the pool was compromised two days ago.

11. K&R for the useful information we're not getting from Corporate McPravda.
Here's what the place looked like before and after the tsunami (scroll down to image six). Note the damage to the structures next to the waterline.

20. The answer is clearly that the pool is probably ruptured and the fuel
is getting extremely hot.

In this case, I will believe my lyin' eyes. That building has been severely damaged.

is any possibility at all that the spent rod pool isn't damage beyond recognition and repair.

It was idiotic to place the spent rod pools towards the top of the buildings.

I heard that in No.4 building there are enough spent rods in the pool for EIGHT reactors.
So, how many are in buildings 1,2,3,5,6 ?
My guess is that we're looking enough rods for 20+ reactors.

This is going to be a HUGE catastrophe, most of which we don't even know about yet!

27. That's my take. The latest video from the site show large plumes of steam....
coming from Reactor #3. Likely what rods remain on top of the building are at least partially uncovered and are boiling away any water that remains in what is laughingly called the cooling pool.
