Gee. It'd be really nice... |

...if we had a disaster preparedness forum right about now.

With the international span of this site, and diversity of backgrounds, we could see some great experience based stories.
I learned at a young age that water can decide not to be available at a moments notice, so I always store a bunch. Same with gasoline, so the tank doesn't go under half before I fill up.
I've got my bug out bag, so if a forced evacuation were to occur, I can grab it and go.
I've got three manual can openers in different places. That one I learned from a cartoon when I was little. The cat was left at home, and all that was there were cans of tuna or cat food, but no opener. The mice had one, and hilarity ensued.
I just bought a house, and need to build my shelter and supplies before tornado season starts. I'm 1000 miles from a hurricane, but tornadoes have been known to eradicate towns, so I need to shore up my shelter.
In this economy, it is hard to keep cash on hand, and as a finance guy, it kills me to not have it invested, but you need to have it if banks are wrecked or the ATMs empty out.
There are many good tips that a forum like that would help everybody. Hope it happens,

Some people went through the procedures (getting enough members to support it, making a request) a couple of years ago, but TPTB ignored them without a clear reason. Those of us who believe in preparedness are a bit grumpy about it, since it's not like most preparedness sites are super-progressive-friendly. Sorry I wasn't clearer about my snarkiness. :)

It's strange how some folks can't handle being proactive. I've had managers that flat out said they didn't want bad news until it was a big problem, instead of heading it off early.

4. funny you should bring that up. |

I just got through a discussion with my wife about hoping for the best but planning for the worst. You never know where you'll get to apply that logic.
