When will online news stories include links to materials that were used to write the stories?

We all know that headlines can be misleading. However, stories themselves can also be misleading. If a story isn't simply hearsay, then there should be some kind of primary source, such as papers that can be scanned and posted somewhere, conversations that can be recorded and made available in formats allowing internet users to listen to them, video more extensive than a short clip that appears on TV, etc.

1. It's just as bad with the print media

How many stories (look at the cheerleader rape case) do we read where some ignorant and biased reporter gives ThEIR version of what happened in the court case without providing a simple link, or even a legal case name to the ACTUAL case? In my experience, nearly every one. And everybody, even here, relies on the biased account VERSUS the actual source document.

That's how media works. They think they are better than the hoi polloi. Much like the medieval catholic church, they don't want the commoners reading for themselves. They want the job of interpreting those sacred texts FOR us. Fuck that.
