Our government operates TOO DAMN SLOW!!! (excuse my language)
Does anyone else experience frusteration due to how slow and inefficient our government operates...They seem to be under little pressure to accomplish anything...have a ton of days off...I'm sick of it. I wish congress operated 24 hours a day 5 days a week..the reps and senators themselves could be in session during business days..and then their aides, interns...could work and accomplish things during non business hours. Imagine if restaurants operated as slow and inefficient as congress does....It would take weeks, months, maybe even years to be served your food!!

Finally I'd like to express my extreme frusteration to our incredibly passive, ineffective, embarassing democratic party leaders Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid. We need aggressive, fiery, intelligent people like Howard Dean and Alan Grayson to be our leaders, not these two clowns!!

1. The Senate was actually designed to slow things down , especially
to mull over bills coming from the more radical House. It was thought out well before TV and news broadcasts and instant communications...It might be a good idea to modernize it, but I'd want to see all the republicans out of office first...

6. Very true ...... however.......
It seems that slowing things down too much is the friend of the status quo, and the enemy of progressive reform. I won't suggest that taking time to think things through is bad, but with the filibuster and other tactics the Senate has done a pretty good job at holding up progressive/liberal agenda.

8. That is what it was designed to do. I don't believe the founders of our system

could have imagined the country we have become or the world as it is now.
I am not saying it is right, just that that is what it is for.
Remember, though- if the progressives copuld rapidly change our government, the extreme right could do so as well and they have been doing their best for decades while we kind of stand around...

2. Slow can be the enemy of evil chicanery...fast is it's friend.
I give you the U.S.A. P.A.T.R.I.O.T. act thousands of pages stripping and/or restricting rights that was presented and voted on in a manner that wouldn't allow a person who could read legalese at 500 wpm time to read the whole thing.

I also give you the Wisconsin Budget Repair Bill. Yes, it wasn't stopped, but it was significantly slowed down. Slowed enough that average citizens understood the evil intent within it. Slowed down enough to enable a coordinated response to the chicanery, in what looks to be at least 4 successful recalls of republicans, and what promises to be the first ever removal of a sitting Wisconsin governor by recall.

That isn't to say that the wheels of Congress couldn't move faster, and that sometimes faster can be OK. It's just that in an era of brinksmanship/shock doctrine the evil ones seem to always try to exploit impatience for their evil deeds.

4. so your proposal is to have unelected aides and interns vote
in committees and on bills? And why just 5 days a week? Why not 24/7?

Seriously?

Actually members of congress are incredibly busy people, constantly out doing meet'n'greets with the bag men of the plutocracy, pulling in the tons of corrupt loot required to finance a seat in the legislature of the Republic of Greed.

7. What exactly are they "too slow" in doing?
What do you expect from a government that works for corporations?

I dunno, friend, your post makes me wonder what your real objectives are here.
