He came to a fundraiser for a Democratic candidate I was working for at the time. He was very friendly and he had to have been close to the same age as Dwight, his grandfather, was when he was president because David looked almost EXACTLY like him, it was eery.

I met and shook hands with Eisenhower in Abilene, Kansas when he kicked off his campaign for the Presidency. I was only 6 and during his speech my father repeatedly gently reminded me to pay attention because I was watching history. To tell you the truth I was far more fascinated by a small man (dressed as a cowboy) who was just my height and part of Ike's entourage.
My grandfather became a county chair for the campaign and we (me, my sister, and grandfather) traveled all over the state campaigning for Ike. My grandfather always drove a DeSoto. Remember those?
Just for the heck of it I still wear my "I Like Ike" button every four years during the presidential campaigns.

Used to fly him (Ike) on Proctor and Gamble jets. They were both golf fanatics and he played golf with him in scotland. In my dads three person office, Nixon among others came to visit. The father-in-law of my dads boss was the founder of the largest oilfield supply company (at the time). Many high placed repubs came to visit mr. v. (rockefeller). I never got to meet any of them. These were repugs from the 1950s and early 60s... tolerable but still pugs. (except eisenhower I always liked him but then I was 1 years old when he came to power) I have other bigtime pugs in my background but my mother, brother and I have always been Democrats! tib

12. I had finished my show on the Steel Pier, was walking back to the |

bus station (the location at that time)to go home and had to wait to cross as Eisenhower was coming down the street (Atlantic Aveue.) He looked directly at me and smiled and waved. He struck me as very grandfatherly. I was 8 or 9 at the time I think.
