Interesting... I just saw a tv ad for Mormon.org...
Edited on Wed Mar-16-11 06:19 PM by hlthe2b
highlighting an Asian American female talking about how her friends don't expect her to have a relationship with God..... and ending with and I'm a Mormon. Unusual on so many levels.....

I find it fascinating that there appears to be a PR campaign going... I wonder if that has anything to do with the coming Repub Presidential primaries?

1. I'm betting you just hit the nail on the head...
This is all about whathisface, the Mormon Pubbie who wants to be Prez...

I honestly cannot fathom claiming to be a person of faith and be a Pubbie.

2. Megan (Meghan?) McCain just endorsed Romney, so maybe it's known definitely
that he's a "go" for the next round.

3. Friends I have in Utah tell me Mormons are constantly 'recruiting' the Mexicans in the area.
to which I responded, "you mean there are Mexicans in Utah?"

Sorry. I think I've seen too much Tosh.0

8. Yep - I knew it. That's the only way the Hispanic demographic can be taken from us.
The Hispanic voting bloc tends to lean Democratic. And as it's also the largest and fastest-growing "minority" demographic, it's the one to have if you want to solidify a political power base and dominate the political landscape for awhile. They're trending OURS. But that could change. You have to KNOW that the bad guys are looking at this huge and growing-larger demographic with remorse, longing, and outright hunger. They know they're driving it away, into OUR arms, maybe for good, and you better believe they're brainstorming nonstop to figure out how to head that off. One way is through religion. If Hispanics aren't given to gravitate toward the fundamentalist extremists or Southern Baptists or other assorted evangelicals, they MIGHT be into the Mormon thing. It's the only way the CONS can ensnare this group - that's largely Roman Catholic. Get 'em with the CONservative social religioso issues like abortion and gay marriage. That's the ONLY way CONS can get any attention or ANY hope of traction from the Hispanic voting bloc.

We CANNOT ASSUME for one instant that the Hispanic voters are ours to keep. And we take them for granted at our peril. They're our chance to get back on top and STAY there. We must NEVER take them for granted. They're being actively wooed as we speak.

11. If Dems had actually remained the party of 'the working man' and made good on that
- the Hispanic voting bloc would have been ours from the start.

It may only be the states' unions fights that helps them see that. Because the Democratic Party hasn't advertised 'the working man' history in many a year.

And I agree that Hispanic voters are being wooed, big time.

9. lol!!!
There is a sign over my door which reads Céad Míle Fáilte on it; translation: "A Hundred Thousand Welcomes" in Gaelic.

The Mormons come around here a lot. One day they were banging on the door and they spotted the sign above the door and I heard them speaking to one another. They said, "Hmmm ... wonder what that means?" The other guy with him said, "Mexicans I suspect!"

:kick:

5. I don't know- we're seeing an awful lot of commercials
for the Catholic Church here in NH (the only channel we get other than pbs).
People talking about 'coming back' to the Church.

Over the last couple of weeks, they've aired them a LOT.

12. K & R. Mormon propaganda is full of racism...

Just one of many:

Alma 3:6 And the skins of the Lamanites were dark, according to the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was a curse upon them because of their transgression and their rebellion against their brethren, who consisted of Nephi, Jacob, and Joseph, and Sam, who were just and holy men.

The teabaggers, of course, will be delighted with this stuff, but Mitt should be called on it if he runs. I'm sure the MSM will be all over it.

13. there's been a PR campaign going for years, though
For instance, the "Family -- isn't it about time" commercials have been airing for at least four years, I think, maybe more, and they had other campaigns before that.

14. these seem particularly targeted at painting a new portrayal of Mormonism...
trying to counter both the racist and misogynistic stereotypes, by featuring a single professional Asian woman and trying to attract the youth. Quite different from the typical family oriented spots.

17. A woman!? Really!? I dated a 'new' Morman. There's still quite a bit of 'only men have certain
privileges' and can do certain things philosophy going on. After all, a woman can not go through the veil after death until her husband dies and can rise to pull her through. And the man I dated still believed if he lived a strict Morman code he would be given his own 'world'. He stopped short of saying he would be made a god.

At least I think he did, I was running away too fast to hear how it finished!

15. I was approached by a mormon missionary the other day. As she was delivering the pitch all I could

think about was her wearing those Mormon underwear. I couldn't keep a straight face.
