Dog attack ends in gunfire, arrest

http://www.omaha.com/article/20110316/NEWS97/703169789/0#dog-attack-ends-in-gunfire-arrest

An Omaha man faces charges after his three dogs attacked a miniature schnauzer in north Omaha.

One of the dogs, a cane corso mastiff, owned by Kevin Goodwin, 51, was shot and killed Tuesday evening by a police officer.

The officer was on patrol in the area and tried to help bystanders break up the attack near Himebaugh Avenue and North 24th Street. When the cane corso began to chase people, the officer shot the dog, according to a police report.

Numerous other officers responded to the attack. Goodwin, 51, was taken into custody while attempting to leave the scene.

1. A neighbor of mine in California shot a pit bull that was menacing his
children in his yard. The dog's owner showed up right after he shot the dog, and while he was still holding the 12 ga. shotgun. The owner started threatening the guy. My neighbor told him, "Uh...you're threatening a guy who's holding a shotgun? How stupid is that." The owner left. The police came, followed by animal control, which took the dog away. The owner moved away from the neighborhood.

Some folks aren't too bright. They really aren't.

2. No shit.
I think people should be interviewed by a shrink before they are allowed to have a dog.

As a high-end retailer in Wine Country, I think the same should apply to prospective parents.

3. A friend of mine had a neighbor that kept a German Shepard
tied out on a chain. My friend said every time he went out in the yard the dog went nuts trying to get at him. Luckily he started carrying a handgun when he went out in his own yard. One day the dog had gotten himself loose and he charged after my friend, he shot and killed the dog in mid air as it was diving for his throat.
