Next Step: Dependant and Survivor Benefits |
|
The job isn't done.
Benefits for spouses of service members enable them to serve without worry that their family back home is taken care of while they dodge bullets on our behalf. They are an acknowledgment that loved ones at home are serving their country just as surely as those on the front line. And of course, few sacrifice more for America than the surviving spouses of those killed in our crazy wars.
GLBT service members, and all of us, won a great victory with the repeal of DADT. It was a good start. But we still have a long way to go.

1. Yep, I think I was maybe the first to raise this issue... |

after I read the bill and I saw what it said. Pisses me off. They can be open, but they can't get the same benefits straight couples can.

2. They could only get those benefits if they were married. |

I agree though, it's just another fight to fight. First step is to repeal DOMA, once that occurs the military will be required to recognize all marriages and then extend BAH and other spousal benefits.
