CNN: "Older Men" being asked to volunteer to work at the Nuclear Plant...
...more likely to die of old age before radiation impacts are felt.

20. True...Our Elderly are already being harrassed here in US...so to the "Front Lines" for them in any
upcoming US Disasters. After all they cost the Govt. Money and they are old and useless. Why not send them off to do "dirty deeds" as our World Implodes.

I don't have so much problem with that...considering our YOUNG PEOPLE are already sacrificing themselves as gun fodder in places like Iraq/Afghanistan/Somalia ...and other places on bases around the world...and the LATEST in JAPAN where the Marines are being exposed to RADIATION.

Hey...it's what one gets when one is part of a "GLOBAL COMMUNITY" where one fights for the Oligarchs and Banksters/Corporatists that we must obey or be dead.

29. Amen.
We have, as a society, descended to the point where we ask the infirm, the weak and the elderly to take our place at the wheel.

5. No, it makes sense - if you're 55 years old, and it takes 30 years
to develop cancer as a result of radiation exposure, you might not live long enough to be affected. On the other hand, a 25 year old guy who maybe is planning on getting married and having kids, would be risking much more.

Fair Trade Off? I think you've already made up your mind about this. :-(

31. You see it. Which is why it is a given that these cuts will go through all the proposals by
the tea baggers will come to pass.

It is the attitude now.

Those of us on the receiving end have seen this for a long time. Now it is becoming clear to some of the rest of you.

7. Or the most rational decision
Looking at this another way, it's not unlike selecting soldiers for a dangerous mission.
They tend to go for people who don't have families or dependents. It sounds terrible, but this could be a situation of people being selected for a fatal mission. In which sense, those guys going in are making the ultimate sacrifice.

8. It's one of those no-win situations. Somebody has to do it, the goal now is to minimize the damage
you have to ask yourself, "what is the alternative"?

25. I've been wondering that, because I thought the Japanese were on the leading edge with robots.
I'm not talking about the humanoid types, but little machines like bomb squads sometimes use.

Heck, my daughter uses little robots to inspect sewer lines all the time; you'd think they could get some remote cameras into those sites.

I dislike the notion that one group of people's lives has more value than another groups.

that people would sacrifice their lives for the greater good. These heroes will be revered for years to come.
