So... a teabagger lady grabbed me this evening.
Edited on Wed Mar-16-11 08:54 PM by PeaceNikki
I was at a protest in front of State Sen Alberta Darling's office this evening. There were about 250 people and 3 teabaggers. I was there as a legal observer and wasn't chanting, protesting or holding a sign. I was taking notes and pictures.

The guy on the far right is a reporter and was filming the whole thing. Note the look on her face as I was taking this picture:

She ran at me and screamed that I can't take her picture. I calmly told her I am here only observing and that we're in a public place, she charged at me and grabbed/yanked my arm. I told her to get her hands off of me and looked towards the police across the street. She let go of me and ran over to them. I slowly strolled towards the cops and explained to them that she grabbed me. They asked if I was the one who "took her picture". I told them that I was taking a picture and she happened to be in it and that she grabbed me. She started screaming in front of the cops and GRABBED ME AGAIN (screaming, I ONLY DID *THIS*!!)! The cop then grabbed her and told her to stop. She cursed and ran away never to be seen again.

I tweeted the event in nearly real-time and a DUer has already turned her into a meme

:D

Oh, also I got to hug Lena Taylor, the fabbest of the 14! :loveya:

It's fun to be in Wisconsin these days.

But she does look like one.

11. Ha, you were never abused by a nun in school, then,
I imagine. Lucky you.

Some of the most two faced, evil, petty, disgusting, mean-spirited, hypocritical, (did I say petty?) unreasonable creatures I ever suffered as teachers wore those penguin suits, and took out all their frustrations on people like me.
I do owe one bit of thanks to penguins. They turned me into a rabid agnostic for life.

120. You're right. The bishops are STRONGLY supporting the union workers.
And the support goes all the way to the Vatican, according to their statement. This is one case where they're clearly on the side of justice.

133. Nuns and priests were MAJOR civil rights activists in the South
I grew up 20 miles South of Atlanta. My family's homes (Grandma's and ours) were on property by what had been 'Rough and Ready' during the civil war. We lived just 2 or 3 miles South of Hapeville and the busy, prosperous Ford Motors assembly plant (long shut down, alas). Many of the people who worked at the plant were from up North and were catholic. During the late 1950s mid to late 1960s the South was roiling with the Civil Rights movement. In my elementary school, especially during Kennedy's few short years, Father Roche the parish priest (who had served as a Marine during WWII) was often preaching brotherhood and preaching against segregation. Through my elementary school years the taught us good history and we learned about slavery. There was no question we were being taught to learn tolerance and understanding by some very good people. One kid's parents pulled him out of school because they didn't like what little Joseph was learning. Some of our parish funds went to provide a few scholarships for black children from 'across the tracks.'

Anyhow, i'll never forget the Sisters of mercy (mother house in pennsylvania). They understood when some of us -like me- came from troubled families and they'd try to help us. And sometimes during springtime, we'd have our school lunches as picnics outside. A couple of the nuns played guitars. the first time I heard Bob Dylan's "Blowin in the Wind" it was sung by a nun. And we all learned it and sang along to that and "Michael, Row the Boat Ashore."

I am so grateful for my Catholic educational foundation. Later, after the first year of high school, my sister and I got rebellious and insisted on going to the public high school. Our grandparents agreed because the high school was 'good' and there would be little or no tuition. (We were out of district, anyway.) That was the biggest mistake i ever made. In the public school there was no discipline and next to no oversight from the school teachers or principle. Kids could easily get away with skipping classes, even the 'rest of the afternoon' and all sorts of things which turned out to hurt us.

175. I was raised Protestant (vaguely) too but I have met several feminist, antiwar
nuns in my time who didn't look a thing like that lady.

I DID have one professor in a grad school Econ course, Dominican nun, who looked like her, was mean, and (of course) a self confessed Republican. She wore street clothes, however...

I busted my arse in that course and she graded me below Honors (my only non-Honors grade in the 4 years I spent getting that Masters). I was pretty mad. It kept me from graduating Summa cum Laude. It wasn't a bad grade (High Pass) but I was miffed. But most everyone in the class hated her guts...

145. Apparently the posters experience was not so nice
as compared with your own. Perhaps it's best not to try on a shoe that is not yours to wear. Also a nice way to dismiss and minimize that persons obvious horrible experiences with nuns in school. I'm guessing compassion wasn't on the curriculum when they taught you about Jesus. Funny you can say that it's not at all characteristic, and if it wasn't for you then great, but I've heard more horror stories from friends that went to catholic schools than good stories. So go figure.

heh, who wants a pity party. Yea I'm cryin' my eyes out here, must be because I was never baptized/christened or went to a religion school. I must be jealous.

or do just not read the posts you reply to?

You have no idea what my own experiences were...and since you never even went to a religious school, as I did, you might

NOT be the person to be telling me about trying "on a shoe yours to wear", because it sounds as if it was

far more "mine to wear" than it was yours.

Sorry I can't give you what you so obviously want -- a nice confirmation of the "evils" of Catholic education.

Sorry, also, that you were so laughably "off" regarding my reference to "the pity party".

You're not "jealous", dear, just ignorant.

I witnessed some abuse by public school teachers, not nuns. And my husband was paddled as a six year old for the crime of having one foot outside of the pedestrian crosswalk.

Should I slam all public school teachers and administrators for the actions of a few?

Looked like- not that she behaved or acted like a nun.

How is that a slam on all nuns? And btw go ahead and slam all public school teachers and admins if it makes you feel better. Reasonable people with a lick of common sense know better and you only impeach your own credibility by making absurd claims.

Luckily, the creep that targeted never got to finish what he wanted to start. My parents had decided to move just in time.

No, it was 20+ later, when I was a lawyer, representing an excess carrier in Chicago's sex abuse cases that my full education came to fruiition.

The Priests and nuns were some of the most devious, dishonest, lying, cheating, assholes you could imagine. Prison's too good for those jerks. We should send them to Fukushima, so they can try to put water on the reactors and spent fuel rods. I am sure their god will protect them, just like prayer protects others.

183. Catholics and members of other denominations
were among the first to set up hospitals all over the country at a time when there were no public hospitals. Members of religious faiths also founded many of the first colleges and universities.

And right now the Catholic church, both the American bishops and even the Vatican, is strongly supporting the rights of union workers.

But you're not expecting a serious answer because you don't really want one.

It's funny that she has no concept of where one can be legally photographed.

Why why why would she demonstrate on the street in front of God and everyone, if she's sensitive about getting her picture taken?

Maybe she worried that she would be posted on one of the "enemy's" web sites, and be mocked by "enemy" smart-asses.

your mind. Who made you the judge of what is a nasty remark, other than you. The only nasty thing in this post was a nasty teabagger attacking another human being. I made a snide, joking remark, get over it. Always be present to what is real, rather than your story about what you think is real. Life will be so much more peaceful and pleasant for U.

Edited on Wed Mar-16-11 09:14 PM by Greybnk48
to miss. My two daughters, one has long red, red hair, the other has long light blonde hair.

They were confronted by two old white haired men (separate skirmishes) and called to tell me the whole story. LOL! The first man told my middle daughter, the blonde smaller of the two that he was 6'4" and 250 lbs. and she better not cock off to him. My redhead (you don't EVEN want to cross her) asked if he planned on hitting a 5' 5" 28 y/o girl? They went after him verbally and he finally left.

I'm so proud of them. We were all in Madison last saturday and the redhead is going back with a gang of friends for the Vets rally this week sat.! :hi:

Edited to add: Thank you and I'm proud of you too!

50. The run-in I related was at the protest.
They had another similar incident at the ice cream place (Is it Pop's?) afterward. While they were waiting to order food a protester came in and asked to speak to a specific person who had already left for the evening. She was wearing a solidarity T-shirt and asked if she could leave a message. She proceeded to recite the donations that they (Pop's?) had given to Scott Walker. My younger girl saw the look on her sister's face and said she could see her hamburger (which she had her heart set on) flying out the window. LOL! The second old white guy started on them when he realized they were on board with the T-shirted protester.

What a night they had.

Normally you see teabaggers with cameras putting the camera within inches of someone's face and then screaming that they've been attacked when the camera is swatted or pushed away.

So now they are sending the grannies out to instigate physical altercations? Did you check the bushes for teabaggers with video gear?

89. From David Sedaris' "When You Are Engulfed In Flames":
At the pool I currently go to, one of the regulars is a woman with Down syndrome. She's fairly heavy and wears an old-fashioned swimsuit, the sort with a ruffled skirt. Then there's this bathing cap that straps beneath her chin and is decorated with rubber flowers. Odd is the great satisfaction I take whenever I beat her from one end to the other. "I won three out of four," I told Hugh the first time she and I swam together. "I mean I really creamed her. "

"Let me get this straight," he said. "She's obese. She's as old as you are. And she has Down syndrome?"

"Yes, and I beat her. Isn't that great!"

"Did she even know you were having a race?"

I hate it when he gets like this. Anything to burst my bubble.

Went to a bushitler protest tonight. He was in town. Only eventful thing was I was told not to yell at the $5k platters. Well fuck that. I'm sick of their rich asses. And particularly sick of the country ruiner they went to throw money. I am also sick of the neighborhood bomber. Now to read the rest of the thread. :hi:

that is why news cameras can shoot anything from a sidewalk-- into an open window of a house, into a crime scene. The sidewalk is public--or do the tea boogers want to give the streets over to private corporations, too?

As for that woman, she could have been charged with assault and battery...if she would have had a sign that could have been used to hit someone, the charge rises to assault/aggravated battery.

Good things D's/libs aren't all that big on pressing charges...if the tables were turned though, she would have taunted you as the cops cited you...just the way the ignorant are...:hi:

I am shaking my head at that sign. Read it again. Can it possibly scream "sheeple" more than it does???

The gist of these anti-union protests is always: "I'm being screwed, so Union Members should get screwed, too!"

Why would any rational person take that approach, rather than: "I want to be protected from getting screwed, like Union members!"

178. No, being a teacher is a job. Nuns are teachers, nurses, academics,
hospital administrators -- they do all kinds of work in the context of their religious vows. And they don't have a particular look.

The person who said that hateful looking woman looked like a nun was making a negative comment on all nuns.

Old Ladies, e.g. "unattractive women with the wrong politics"

It's even a bit more popular than:

Younger Ladies, e.g. "attractive women with the wrong politics", e.g Sarah Palin, Carrie Prejean,

Nuns, aka "the jackpot" in that it combines perceived Old Lady bashing with Catholic bashing,

= a Real DU Crowd Pleaser.

Seriously, Have you ever seen THIS long and Scatological a thread bashing

and as far as "looking like a nun"...didn't you say

that you were raised Protestant?

Given that, I doubt you would really know

what a nun "looks like"

Since I was raised Catholic and was taught by nuns for TWELVE YEARS

I'll give you a hint: Nuns don't have a particular "look", okay?

They're just like other women, some old, some young, some fat, some

thin, some pretty, some plain, etc.

Actually, this woman has the kind of look

my mother used to call "Protestant looking", lol.

153. This is the worst America has to offer.
People like this are literally the dregs of our society. It is unfortunate that we have to deal with lowlifes masquerading as "conservatives" on a daily basis. Each day brings more right-wing horrors in the newspaper, more unsettling anecdotes like this online.

I wish there were some legitimate way to mute or get rid of these people. Just think what a wonderful country we would have (once again) if all of the far-right wackos and republican assholes suddenly just - poof! - disappeared. Aren't a lot of them supposed to be Raptured away any minute now? I do wish they'd hurry up. I can't wait to be Left Behind!
