Wonder why the NYT saw it fit to break the news on the plume.

5. Interesting.
"Relative Levels of Radiation (Arbitrary Units)"

Still intriguing that they can predict this sort of thing.

6. They are using satellite and computer modelling
and I wish they gave us sieverts, and not arbitrary. Arbitrary is pretty useless.

8. What are those colors really referring to?
I mean there's a big difference between purple and blue.

But I don't like the looks of blue either!

10. above normal but their numbers are bunk
it is really not going to really do much to spike a sensor, or should not... if it does I will be shocked to be honest.

7. So is this telling us there is likely indeed a plume coming to the west coast?
Edited on Thu Mar-17-11 12:18 AM by Go2Peace
If so, why is it being muzzled instead of letting us know so we can make our own decision on how to prepare?

I understand it is likely to not be nearly as high of levels here, but it sure would be nice, since we live in a democracy, that we be allowed to know the facts and make our own choices?

16. No. This is showing how....
If there were a radioactive plume, such a blume -- if significant enough -- could migrate that direction and distance, assuming that the wind patterns they used in the model existed and held together long enough. In other words, it's a fancy artist's impression of what an imaginary scenario packaged under a deceptive headline.

It is one of most irresponsible bits of nonsense I have ever seen published.

We'll have to see how the winds/weather act in the next few days...or until this situation is resolved.

14. Arbitrary units?
Thanks for the thread, but that seems odd. Couldn't they do it with actual units of measurement?

why the numbers are pretty bunk
