Rescue organizations in Japan are working to rescue animals, despite the immense challenges and dangers.
As the world watches Japan, waiting for a possible imminent, nuclear catastrophe, there is no way to tell what the next few days and hours will bring.
We continue to keep the people and animals there in our thoughts and prayers.
As you’ll read below, there are many groups out in the field working to rescue the animals. These facts were gathered yesterday, and they’re overshadowed by the ominous developments of today, in which the Fukushima nuclear facilities appear to be in a state of meltdown beyond anyone’s control. The workers have been withdrawn from the site due to the extremely high radiation levels. They are heroes, risking their own lives and health; the last few worked to try to save the situation until the last moment before they were evacuated.
These are multiple catastrophes, piled one upon the other, and there is also looming the specter of economic catastrophe. All this threatens both the people and animals of Japan.
What we can be sure of is that there are always those who will think first of others and those who will be self-sacrificing to save animals, so we can be certain that one way or another, the efforts to save animals are continuing despite the danger. If rescuers cannot enter the evacuated zone (which almost certainly they cannot), then they will continue where ever in the surrounding areas it is possible for rescue efforts to be carried out and temporary shelters to be set up, wherever it is possible for animals to be located, rescued, given food, water, and shelter or transported out of the danger zone to a safe place. The work helping animals is continuing, and donations are needed more than ever.
More at
http://network.bestfriends.org/golocal/international/16870/news.aspxThere is a list of organizations accepting donations at the end of that link.
One organization is dividing up the funds between all rescue groups involved in helping the animals.

Same organization has a ChipIn page at
