Republicans once again call for a time out in making policy during disasters caused by policy
Republicans today are saying that we can't talk about nuclear policy during a major nuclear disaster because http://www.nytimes.com/gwire/2011/03/15/15greenwire-nuclear-crisis-in-japan-sharpens-gops-go-slow-74838.html?pagewanted=all">times like these are not when you set policy. I guess the argument is that they might do something rash without thinking it through. This is the exact same argument from not very long ago when we had the BP oil spill. And even though it hasn't even been a year since the largest oil spill in our history that disaster has just about been totally forgotten. The Republican plan not to talk about reforming policies that cause disasters while those disasters are taking place certainly seem to be working out very well. When I say working out I mean working out for the people who they work for.

It would be great if these hypocrites were actually consistent in this line of thinking when any disaster happens. After 9/11 happened these same assholes couldn't wait to start chipping away at our civil liberties the very next day and rush us in to two wars that have so far cost more than $1 trillion dollars and cost hundreds of thousands of innocent lives.

When their friends in wall street needed a bail out Republicans were there to argue that there was no time for debate and that the government had to act right away. Within a month after the shit hit the fan the bank bailout was signed in to law giving wall street $700 billion dollars with absolutely no strings attached. Mitch McConnell called it the proudest day in the senate’s history.

So today we have had two major environmental disasters within 1 year of each other both due to how we get our energy in this country. Instead of talking about how to reform our energy policy so shit like this doesn't continue to happen year in and year out the republican argument is that we all need to take a chill pill and relax. Why? So that they can ride this out until everyone forgets about it which always tends to happen in this country.

These assholes are great at causing panic when it benefits them and calling for calm when panic hurts them. Do Democrats truly have no way to counter that? Or are they playing along?

1. Some events are a natural fit for shock doctrine.
Others require a little thought. Nuclear meltdowns are the latter, since the goal of shock doctrine is to make a world in which nuclear meltdowns are more likely.

2. I think most people were already scared of nuclear power.
If the democrats wanted to they could use that to atleast call for better regulations, preperations, and serious reviews of nuclear power. But there doesn't seem to be a serious movement on the Democratic side to do that.

5. Republicans aren't afraid to rush into action. They're pondering how to spin this to their benefit.
Maybe it's the fault of lazy union workers? No. That won't fly.
Maybe the problem is too much government oversight of private companies? No, that's no good either.
Socialist healthcare? Naah.
Too much foreign aid? Hmm... probably not.
God's wrath for Pearl Harbor? That's promising, but we'd better stay above the fray and just let the minions run with it.
Government spending? Let's have Glenn work it out on his chalkboard. I'm sure he can come up with a theory.

4. Yet, they rammed through the Patriot Act without reading it in the days after 9/11.
Gotta love their logic, if you're a right-wing moron.

7. exactly. it's always time for republican legislation, never time for democratic legislation.
personally, i prefer nuclear energy over most other prevalent forms, particularly oil, but i'm nevertheless disgusted by republican arguments.
