1. My brother has a leprechaun outfit he wears every March 17th
and he is about 5'2" tall with extremely Irish features

Free drinks all night for the little bastard, it is the one day in the year when I think that being shorter might not be such a bad thing.

3. Another view of a great nation:

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

6. There is much to honor the Irish for
Other than a drunk in a picture with a green foil hat on. I find it insulting as a person of Irish descent - always have and always will.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

And oh, btw, St. Patrick's Day was at one time a Catholic religious holiday day in Ireland. Sadly, today, few people, even the Irish themselves (most are >30 years of age) do not know this.

7. Frankly I always thought
Edited on Thu Mar-17-11 12:22 PM by bengalherder
that Irish celebrating St.Patricks day is akin to Indians celebrating Columbus day.

As someone whose primary ancestries is that of peoples swept up in the slow tsunami known as the empire and eventually subsumed by it (Irish being one of them): I don't think I'm going to give thanks for arrival of the empire and the religious apparatus that accompanies it, it just seems too servile.
