IAEA says "Fukushima is not "out-of-control"...(wtf?) |
|
Edited on Thu Mar-17-11 11:14 AM by SoCalDem
a banner on MSNBC whizzed by, with that "message"..
That tells me a LOT about IAEA.
A skeleton of a nuclear power plant that is "leaking radiation", run by a suicide mission of 50-100 people who are sacrificing their lives for their job & country , while they crawl around in the dark amidst rubble from repeated EXPLOSIONS, is not what I would call "in control".

Perhaps nuclear scientists have a different definition of "control" than you do. |
|
At least as it pertains to nuclear disasters.

..authorities...ie Not very...
I think as soon as they had the first explosion and realised there was no way to get the cooling pumps back on they knew that the battle was never going to be won. I suspect it was always about limiting it as much as possible before the inevitable happens...
I think that this will make Chernoybl look like a campfire in comparison by the time it's done...and that is a terrible thing to contemplate..

8. No power systems; no cooling systems; no control systems |
|
The only thing under control is the information.
Every major emergency has two organizations: 1) an Incident Management Team composed of technical experts (command, planning, logistics, finance, operations) and a Crisis Management Team composed of experts of a different kind (executives, lawyers, public relations). The IMT is responsible for actual damage control, while the CMT is responsible for financial, legal and reputation damage control.
Guess which team manages the information that is released.
I'm not a nuclear engineer, just an engineer/scientist trained in emergency response. There is no control here, and even the illusion of control is gone.

15. Noticeable change in media coverage today |
|
There are no live reports. Today's repeated message is that the radiation poses no harm to Americans. One reporter from CNN who is live from Japan mentioned that radioactivity levels are high but that officials don't know how high exactly. Overall coverage has dropped considerably today, at least on cable news stations.
