Trump says he has doubts about Obama’s birth place
Edited on Thu Mar-17-11 10:36 AM by brooklynite
Source: CNN

(CNN) – Donald Trump, the business mogul who continues to claim he is seriously interested in mounting a bid for the White House, says he has doubts about whether President Obama was born in the United States.

In an interview with ABC, Trump said he finds it strange “nobody knew” Obama as a young child in Hawaii.

“Let me tell you, I’m a really smart guy. I was a really good student at the best school in the country. The reason I have a little doubt, just a little, is because he grew up and nobody knew him,” Trump said in the interview that aired Thursday.

“If I got the nomination, if I decide to run, you may go back and interview people from my kindergarten. They'll remember me. Nobody comes forward. Nobody knows who he is until later in his life. It's very strange,” the Celebrity Apprentice host added. “The whole thing is very strange.”

Option 1: Donald Trump is as dumb as he appears to be.

Option 2: Donald Trump is as cynical as he appears to be, and will give the Republican faithful all the red meat they want in order to be competitive if he runs.

I guess this is the cynical default position to be seriously considered by the average Republican primary voter. I wonder how much research Don has done about who knew Obama growing up. None sounds about right. My respect for Trump, already pretty low, has sunk even further.

68. Maybe, but I really don't see how this benefits him with his peers.
A cynical statement to the core rubes and morons who make up the activist base in order to be considered a serious candidate for the Republican nomination, I understand. Otherwise, it's stupid. IMHO, he could get just as much publicity by condemning the stupidity of the birther movement as a responsible Republican. That would kill his nomination chances, but it would get him the publicity that he obviously lusts after.

82. I'm not so sure
It seems that saying something outrageous or truly stupid gets people a lot of media attention. Reasonable? Sane? Not so much.

Huckabee, Gingrich, Palin are all promoting something; book, speaking engagements, TV show, and of course, their own egos. Appearing to run for president can be very beneficial for some people. They live in a different and very strange world.

If Donald Trump is seriously running for president, I will be very surprised. It will be a very interesting election.

10. The right has ONLY the birther base left, without the birthers, NONE of..
the Republican potential candidates can get above 10% in the polls of Republicans.

It's THAT simple...add the birthers, and you approach 25% of Republican primary voters, maybe 35%, enough to be noticed.

It's that simple...doubt Obama's birthplace, you're in!

31. Or say said friend was part of the conspiracy - not to mention, remember the kindergarden essay
that the Clinton people found - that "proved" little Obama wanted to be President back when he was 5 years old. He went to kindergarten.

Producing a report card would no more work than producing his birth certificate (or Kerry's complete service record) has.

They believe only their own media, which sows these doubts.

21. Didn't President Obama live in Indonesia (instead of Hawaii) as a young child?
His mother was an anthropologist. I think I recall hearing stories of people in Indonesia who knew him during that period. He was sent back to live in Hawaii with his grandparents when he was about 10 or so. His Hawaii classmates from that (later) period remember him.

"Dumb" or "cynical" are not the only two choices to describe Trump.

But he started elementary school in Hawaii.

So it looks like Trump is starting a whole new conspiracy theory -- where Obama was not only born in Kenya but lived there for his first six years, until he went off to Indonesia.

29. Teacher from Kenmore recalls Obama was a focused student
... “I may be the only person left who specifically remembers his birth. His parents are gone, his grandmother is gone, the obstetrician who delivered him is gone,” said Nelson, referring to Dr. Rodney T. West, who died in February at the age of 98. Here’s the story: Nelson was having dinner at the Outrigger Canoe Club on Waikiki Beach with Dr. West, the father of her college friend, Jo-Anne. Making conversation, Nelson turned to Dr. West and said: “‘So, tell me something interesting that happened this week,’” she recalls.

His response: “Well, today, Stanley had a baby. Now that’s something to write home about.”

The new mother was Stanley (later referred to by her middle name of Ann) Dunham, and the baby was Barack Hussein Obama ...

61. I don't even remember the people who were...
in my classes in college. This is a ridiculous talking point Trump is trying to push.

53. LOL, this is hilarious and should be interpreted to mean he is less than
confident he can muster any votes. So he positions himself a move toward the racist idiots within the GOP.

What a shameless ass.

55. Of course Trump's kindergarten mates will remember him
If he was even 1/10th the asshole he is now, I'm sure everyone would remember him. Fat little rich kid who bullied everyone else.

62. If Trump was ever a 'really good student', it must mean he got an 'A' in Lunch.
Because he certainly doesn't strike me as an intellectual on any level.

He's a genius at three things:

1.Inheriting a massive fortune from his father.

2.Shameless self-promotion.

3.Retaining assets after multiple bankruptcies due to enormously bad business decisions made by him.

63. Jesus had the same problem ....
Likely an anchor baby, born with questionable paternal issues. Then we know nothing about him. No one really knows him as a kid. And then suddenly, he's back as a adult, lots of followers.

Wonder if Trump knows that story?

81. The guy I did some work for at one time thought The Donald was the Master of the Universe.
The penultimate businessman. Listened to his motivational tapes and books-on-tape. Quoted him. Even acted like him at times.

Finally one day, in passing, I mentioned that it sure takes talent to lose money owning a casino.

"What?"

"The Donald. His casino business is going bankrupt. ( http://money.cnn.com/2009/02/17/news/companies/trump_entertainment/index.htm ) So tell me how the hell does one manage to lose money owning a group of friggin' casinos, for crying out loud?"

Didn't have to hear much about The Donald after that.

89. Birther: "I believe in the virgin birth but I don't believe Obama was born in HI"
Not to offend any believers here, that is not my intent. But the Birthers become amazingly cynical/skeptical when it comes to the details of Obama's birth in Hawaii (which was announced in the newspaper of course, more documentation than many have had over the years)

93. I agree with Donald. It's clear to me now:
Obama is the bastard stepchild of Clarence Thomas and Rush Limbaugh. He is a confused RightWinger who thought he was a Democrat at one time.

I say we get rid of the guy and give Biden a shot.
