2. Ironically the best conservative show in the history of television was on PBS |
|
But they don't make conservatives like Buckley anymore, sadly.

11. and unfortunately a foundation charges big buck for videos of past Firing Line Shows, so .... |
|
it becomes easy for conservatives to forget Buckley too.
One of the finest things an American could do would be to flood the net with those shows to help moderate conservatives who can't recall the world before Reagan.

3. I love PBS (except during pledge drives!). Their nature, history and performance programs ... |
|
... are wonderful. I'd miss them terribly. Not to mention Sesame Street and other kids' shows WITHOUT COMMERCIALS.

Then they refused to air the award winning documentary 'Panama Deception'. And they pushed pro-NAFTA corporatists and smeared the scant anti-NAFTA side. They sucked up to big oil and big agra, and said "F you" to their loyal benefactors.

10. I believe that Pacifica Radio is also at risk ... huge audience for Democracy Now! |
|
I am not 100% sure what exactly this repuke bill cuts but I am sure that Rove would like Pacifica to disappear....
Democracy Now! itself would not be at risk but I know that they are the flagship program on many Pacifica stations...

12. And Pacifica Radio is MUCH more valuable to the Left than NPR has been for a long time. |

. . . Though many TRUE progressives run the gamut from doubting that CPB (Corporation for Public Broadcasting) funding is NEEDED for COMMUNITY radio stations to despising the fact that it is used. . . . It's been many years since I've been involved in THAT fight, but I remember that there were smaller "individual" VERY progressive stations out there that turned CPB funsing down because of the restrictions/requirements that it would have meant for them. . . . I HIGHLY recommend that you seek out your potential community radio station at the far left (appropriate) of your dial. They make no apologetic bones about being liberal-to-very-progressive in perspective. . . .

13. Pacifica Is Privately Funded |
|
Some stations may get some CPB funding but the vast majority of their operating expenses (including DN) is from private sources. The only threat they have is that their licenses could be challenged and revoked but that is not what this non-sense bill was about.

A big difference. The bill today was targeted specifically at NPR...not PBS or the CPB (Corporation For Public Broadcasting) that is the real money arm of public broadcasting.
The real game here is to drive radio stations into financial straits that would lead to some public broadcasters having to close up shop and their licenses then could be handed over to "non-profit" religious groups...many who are very sympathetic to right wing causes and creates an under-the-radar network to spread lies and talking points. The "Obama is a Muslim" meme is one that plays real big on religious radio. In many rural (and predominately red) areas Public radio is the only alternative to religious and hate radio and goons like Pence (who was a "broadcaster" :puke:) is out to help his Evangelical buddies and contributors by giving them a solid hold on the radio dial (or what's left of it).
