Poll question: The economic impact from reports of trace amounts of fallout in West Coast states
Edited on Thu Mar-17-11 01:57 PM by Poll_Blind
This poll is not about dangerous fallout, but about the perception of states that receive (trace amounts of) fallout.

I don't think it's controversial to suppose that, even in a best-case scenario, trace amounts of fallout will eventually be found in any or all of the West Coast states. This poll asks, "Even if the fallout is deemed 'harmless', but is still widely reported, how much do you believe it would negatively impact exports from those states over the next 5 years?"

Each option has an opinion on the impact on international exports and interstate exports, so read and choose carefully!

Thanks for taking the time!

1. Good question, speaking as a native Californian here.
If produce from the once-Golden -- now imploding -- state is perceived as "slightly radioactive," vs. "non-radioactive" choices from elsewhere, what will people buy?

Of course, industry will continue to use the milk, meat, produce, etc., in other products, so people will be buying it anyway.....

2. The little stickers will all say "Chile" and no one will know the difference.
Didn't Gulf Coast seafood get integrated into the supply chain quite easily?

4. That's an interesting point. I love going to the "all you can eat" Chinese buffets around here...
...and if I ever go to Reno I'll be hitting them there pretty hard. How can I find out where that seafood is coming from or, barring that, how can I really be sure where my fish/seafood is from at the store? I know a lot of fish is mislabeled to make it sell at a higher price.

3. I live in Oregon but I was looking over California's international exports and...
...started wondering what kind of impact merely the report of fallout would have. I know Oregon exports lots of fruit and vegetables and those are just the kind of thing, for instance, which might be impacted.

6. Seem like there's a run on KI and likely to be a drop in dairy consumption
so there likely to be some impact there.

Of course perhaps facing energy shortage, Japan companies might expand US manufacturing plants?

Potential for immediate impact and long term impact. Will it happen? Don't know.
