Donald Trump Is Kind of a Birther
The potential presidential candidate (supposedly), who increasingly seems to be on a mission to gradually destroy his own reputation, has doubts about President Obama's birth. It's okay though, because Trump is a "really smart guy"!

Speaking about the president, Trump — in line with "birthers" who question the president's citizenship — said he, too, had his doubts that Obama was born in the U.S.

"Everybody that even gives a hint of being a birther … even a little bit of a hint, like, gee, you know, maybe, just maybe this much of a chance, they label them as an idiot. Let me tell you, I'm a really smart guy," he said.

He explained the source of his doubt: "He grew up and nobody knew him. You know? When you interview people, if ever I got the nomination, if I ever decide to run, you may go back and interview people from my kindergarten. They'll remember me. Nobody ever comes forward. Nobody knows who he his until later in his life. It's very strange. The whole thing is very strange," he added.

1. No....Donald Trump is a publicity hound.
If he knows it will get him publicity, he'll say it.

6. Agreed. It's not happening.
Who knows if he would even want it - this is all probably a bunch of hot air.

18. I wouldn't be so sure
The fact that he's wealthy is certainly no guarantee of anything. However, he's a brilliant self promoter and he's very media savvy. He'll market himself as an outsider who knows "how to run a business" and "knows how to get a deal done."

It wasn't easy for him -- being green and all.

Piggy would be the greatest FLOTUS since Dolly Madison.

11. As long as Obama is around
Edited on Thu Mar-17-11 04:40 PM by RZM
The birther and 'he's a Muslim' nonsense won't be going away. There will always be a core group of idiots who believe it and a larger group of people around them who might not necessarily believe these things, but express sympathy to the ideas because they don't care much for the President.

What bothers me is I think we are missing a golden opportunity here to publicly shame people who believe all sorts of other stupid conspiracy theories, some of which are believed by large numbers of people, including MIHOP and AIDS being an artificial creation designed to kill gays/blacks/whomever. The birther bullshit is a rare of example of a conspiracy theory being a regular part of public discourse. I wish that while it was out there, more people would take the opportunity to call out those who believe other ridiculous conspiracy theories.

17. Standard business practice. The rest of us subsidize it.
Edited on Thu Mar-17-11 04:48 PM by leveymg
There are "businessmen" who go bankrupt dozens of times in their careers, yet never have problems borrowing money or finding backers. It all gets factored in.

He's slime, but not entirely stupid. The really stupid ones are us for allowing this stuff to continue.

28. you have to admit, his state of the union speaches would be a refreshing change
instead of the happy horse s--t they all give, trump's would be more realistic and entertaining

"The state of the union, is lousy, a complete disaster. Senate, who on your team do you think dropped the ball?.......House? Supreme court?

I want everyone to leave the chamber, and return with 25 percent of your team's members. Ten percent WILL be fired"
