Wisconsin recall 50% - Time For Negotiation over
Edited on Thu Mar-17-11 06:19 PM by eleny
http://www.politiscoop.com/component/content/article/35-last-24h-news/118-wisconsin-recall-50-time-for-negotiation-over.html

"...50% of the signatures needed to Recall all 8 Republicans have now been signed and sealed.

This percentage is on the low end as affording a cushion to any contested signatures by the Republicans. We are now hearing Senators from the right wanting to talk to their constituents at town hall meetings and the like and they are finding out that the people are returning the favor by saying "The time for talk is over, it is now our way or the highway".

In Darlings district, signatures were collected so fast that a line formed around a city block to oust her from office. Hopper is now on the ropes with not only a recall but having to explain why he is living out of district and the circumstances surrounding that. Cowles who only won his district by some 150 votes approximately is looking into a tidal wave of signatures against him as well. This goes right on down the line."

(I searched but couldn't find this already posted here in GD)

57. Let's see what it is like with the tables turned at those
town hall meetings. The teabaggers disrupted and distorted many town hall meetings. I hope our people go there in droves and ask pointed questions and make intelligent comments. They don't have to disrupt. All they have to do is show up in large numbers and state their case. Your time is up repubs.

3. Recall elections will provide great venues for keeping the struggle in front of the public.
Without some goal to direct energy toward it might be harder to focus and easier to lose momentum.

Recall!

4. Clarification please
Is 50% of the required signatures reached or 100% of the signatures to meet the 50% of the voters in the last election threshold met? Great news, but if it's the later...it's really great news. That didn't take too long, did it?

But the number they've collected so far sounds significant because of how fast it's happened.

29. Sounds Purposely Confusing...
I was in Shorewood...Alberta Darling land last weekend and word was that we already had enough signatures to submit to the county clerk but we know the rushpublicans will contest every single petition...thus our goal wasn't double but triple the number required...(in our case we are going for 100,000 signatures). I suspect the number was reached but why let the other side know...let 'em sweat a bit. They'll know for certain in another couple weeks and they're not going to like what they see.

The atmosphere for the recall is very strong...between the ramrod tactics of Wanker and the Fitzgeralds to the Koch phone call many kept saying "we didn't vote for this".

38. 50 % of what is required. However, we have 60 days and only filed 2.5 weeks ago
So we are in good stead as long as people stay motivated. of course, we are all concerned that we got the bulk of the folks in the first two weeks and then will be picking at things the remaining 5.5 weeks, so we need all the help we can get to make sure that is not the case. We need people who know facts, know what is at stake, and can talk to the public that might be more wary at this point. Then again, I've had people calling me to sign that are in said Senators districts with petitions mailing out the door to those I can't reach this weekend (so they can get friends and neighbors to sign). We need boots on the ground. The money train is out there, but if you can give even an hour, please do so!

11. At protest last night, 3 of recall signature collectors were "moderate independents"
They said they voted for Walker and Darling, are sorry and are trying their best to make up for it.

*THIS* is why I don't want national Democrat/White House involvement. It's not as partisan as they will have you believe and we can't shift the focus and momentum. Not now.

74. If he would have gotten involved it would have revolved around
him, not the Wisconsin citizens. The citizens made this happen they are going to recall the Republicans.

Doesn't matter to some the implications if he would have actively gotten involved. If he would have gotten involved and it centered around him I am pretty confident you would be saying he shouldn't have gotten involved. There is no winnning for him with you. So please own it and admit it and find your third party candidate to support.

78. I don't think that's why he ignored the issue.
His refusal to get involved may have helped organizers in Minnesota in certain respects-- but that doesn't mean that was his motivation. I'd say he didn't get involved because he's really more of a big business guy. Simple as that.

Also, all during this drama, his biggest supporters were asserting over and over how involved he'd been... quoting the same small handful of quotes as proof of his rock solid support and involvement. I'm not saying you were amongst them because I honestly don't know, but I have seen this 180 degree shift elsewhere on DU. Suddenly it's just accepted that he was uninvolved, but that was a good thing. It's very weird.

9. We need 150% of signatures, and have over a month to ..
do it in.

Go door to door, go to supermarkets, go to every location where 100 people gather.......school PTA meetings are great!

Get 150% of required, have ballots drawn up........whoever shows up at the recall elections decide... you don't need 33% of voters to show up at elections, but you need 150% of 25% of the number who actually voted in November to sign those petitions.

Easier said than done,... but still quite possible 7 or 8 of the 8 could lose their jobs.

be the last to march and fight.

I hope you all understand how important this battle is for America. Not only important because of collective bargaining, but to let the Republicans know they aren't going to jerk states around.

You are first out of the gate, but here comes Michigan, Ohio, et al., right behind you. This is a wonderful example of the power of democracy.

Thank you for all your hard work!

He can afford to behave like a nasty partisan hack b/c enough members of his district would vote for a dead frog as long it ran with an (R) after its name.

(And I'm not exactly sure why I picked "dead frog" as my politically-interested entity, but I think I'll stick with it. haha)

This one should be said, read, and SPREAD - so it goes viral, pops up on bumper stickers, buttons, and even campaign commercials. It's short 'n' sweet.

61. Very nice, now this is "We the People" for real, not the astroturf, Koch funded Sleazebaggers.
I've said it before, when the majority rises up, there is nothing that the vocal lunatic minority can do to further push their evil agenda on us all. They might have short sighted, short lived battle wins, but in the end, they will lose this war against "We the People". Congratulations Wisconsin and now forge ahead and get the remaining 50%. Do it in Michigan, Ohio, Florida and any other state where Republicons are breaking laws and pushing through policy without debate, to further their destruction of our Unions, Schools, local governments, Social Security, Medicare, Women, Mexicans, gays, health care, food stamps, EPA, FDA, public radio, Planned Parenthood and anything else that the poor, middle class and the rest of the majority need to keep them safe, employed and with a roof over their heads. The Extremist Republicons, need to be, and will be, defeated.

65. It occurs to me.....
...that with a realistic chance that all eight will have to stand for recall, and....

the recall effort against the 8 Democrats is struggling and....

with the Court ruling that the State violated the open meeting law and getting a TRO on implementation of the bill....

the last thing in the world those eight Senators want to do is to be forced to vote quickly on re-passing the anti-union, power plant raping, crony-appointing bill that Walker jammed down the Democratic Legislator's throats just over a week ago.

I'm guessing they will have to at least appear more moderate, make misleading and totally disingenuous overtures to compromise and generally just "play nice" until the recall threat is over....then they can resume their descent into assholedom.

thoughts?

68. I don't see these monsters playing nice at all.
They've gone "all in" and are putting all of their shit on the table; shoving it through while they can. Which hopefully won't be long.

79. Possibly. Or they may move as fast as possible, to cram it through
before they're ousted. Failing their owners now would leave them with fewer prospects when they're kicked out of office.

66. In Michigan
We can't start a recall drive until July for Governor Snyder. But, we'll have 90 days to get the signatures. I would love to see some a number of these high profile Conservatives looking for jobs by the end of the year. It would send a strong message towards November 2012.

69. Town Hall meetings ?!?
Ha! Nice try, you cornered rats. Legislators meet with constituents to discuss specific issues BEFORE the votes are taken, not as a means of offering lame excuses for attempting to destroy the middle class. But your minds were already made up -- NO COMPROMISES! Remember that mantra? You have burned every bridge in sight and there is no other recourse. You need to be shown the door. Recall elections are not exactly a form of compromise either.
