Phyllis Bennis on Libya and No-Fly Zones

Phyllis Bennis on Libya and No-Fly Zones

Two air strikes were reported last night in the city of Ajdabiya. While the Gaddafi regime uses force to placate the rising opposition standing up against tyranny, the West is faced with the choice of implementing a no-fly zone or taking other inherently militaristic actions while making it clear that they support a democratic process. Phyllis Bennis, director the the our New Internationalism project, breaks down the choices facing the U.S., and reflects on the opposite arguments used by Bill and Hillary Clinton between now and the last time the U.S. established a no-fly zone.

Simply put, no-fly zones have never been used for humanitarian reasons.
