The Democratic Serenity Prayer

Most of us are not alcoholics. But all of us, at one time or another, have fallen victim to the number one dirty trick of the Republican Party, Divide and Conquer . That is why I have come up with the Democratic Serenity Prayer:

God grant me the serenity to listen to my friends when they disagree with me; courage to confront my enemies when they attack me; and wisdom to know the difference.

How can you tell the difference? The enemy seldom donates money to the Democratic nominee. The enemy does not turn out to vote for the Democratic nominee. The enemy does not work his fingers to the bone campaigning for the Democratic nominee. The enemy does not do much of anything except talk. Oh boy, does he love to talk. He will tell you that American Jews can not be trusted, because they all secretly support the American right wing. He will tell you that American Blacks can not be trusted, because they hate gays. He will whisper in your ear that unions have cost you your jobs. He will insinuate that women are never satisfied. He will warn you that Latinos don’t value a woman’s right to choose. He will insist that all men are secretly rapists. One minute, he will tell you that selfish Boomers are destroying the country, and the next minute he will denounce lazy youth.

Once he has you good and steaming, he will suggest---oh so reluctantly----that the only way to purge your party of that bad element is to turn your back on the Democrats. Withhold your dollars and your vote. Make your voice go unheard. Sure, you will be out of work, homeless and uninsured. But just think of the moral victory!

Your friends want something better for you than the cold comfort of a "moral victory." Your real friends want to see your kids get a decent education. They will work to help you keep a roof over your head. They will find a way to get your mother that surgery she needs. Because your friends know

We must all hang together, or surely we will all hang separately.

1. Interesting post, and merry Christmas.

Although I do alot of 'talking' and understand that real friends do help people when they can. Although if your friends are helping other people, or have little resources, best they help people that need it more.

It is those with way more then they need that are the problem, although I think it is mostly to try and get other people angry, that is why some horde or do not correct what they should.

As far as 'doing something' if you are already due, then going to 'do something' to achieve something like what you mentioned would be doing the same thing expecting different results. I say that because I am not doing anything when I am already due, and I talk alot, however I defend all the groups you mentioned.


And the only one I have heard say most of those things you mention, is you in your post. Most of those things I have never seen or read anywhere but in your posts.

So there is that to think about.

But Merry Christmas.


And I don't worry about hanging, together or with other people, :shrug:

Although that statement is morally neutral. Since it would depend on societal rules of justice. Although I don't believe in death penalty, and also think compassion should be with justice. But many use that as a way to hide their crimes.
