6. If there is one thing that characterizes the rebels
Edited on Fri Mar-18-11 12:13 AM by tabatha
is that they have all been on the same page.

I have read hundreds of tweets that called for a NFZ.

Possibly that is because I really do "read more often".

I get my information from a number of places - and I read them every day at least once.

You should try it too.

14. The NFZ in recent days was ALL that was being tweeted.
I had a hard time following them because I didn't want to seem biased / pro-NFZ (I am but I didn't want to send that message, it was REALLY hard to find anti-NFZ posts).

16. Yep, and after reading all those tweets
and recently watching as many tweets mentioned the "agonizing and waiting" for the UN result, one's head is filled with the facts of what is going on, just to find others are so out of the loop, it reminds one of rwers.

I wish there was an archive of those tweets.

17. I might make a script to grab them all, historically speaking it'd be nice to have.
I think twitter doesn't "forget" tweets though.

22. Given the comments on DU lately I'm reminded of Iyad Elbaghdadi's tweets yesterday:

Iyad El-Baghdadi
Many supposed "observers" couldn't hide their excitement as they gloated over the revolution's "imminent defeat". #Libya

These "lurkers" appeared to be disinterested observers but now show us where their true sympathies (or interests) lay. #Libya

Some asked last night who these "lurkers" were; they included people on social networks, in the media, and even some politicians #Libya

23. Have you checked out Google's realtime?
If you search for a particular hashtag and click on the timeline on the right you can see what tweets were posted at that time.

For example: http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&safe=off&rls=com.microsoft:en-US&prmdo=1&q=%23nfz&aq=f&aqi=g10&oq=&&tbm=mbl:1&tbs=mbl:1,mbl_hs:1300343437,mbl_he:1300429837,mbl_rs:1300401616,mbl_re:1300401628,mbl_dr:n

The origination of the no-fly-zone was to stop Gaddafi from shipping in mercs.

He got tens of thousands of them.

11. Al Jazeera blogs
Edited on Fri Mar-18-11 12:11 AM by tabatha
http://blogs.aljazeera.net/live/africa/libya-live-blog-march-7

March 7
10:08pm
Reuters reports: Gulf states called for a no-fly zone to be imposed in Libya, and for an urgent Arab
League meeting to discuss the situation in the North African country, according to a statement released by their foreign ministers.

7:12pm
AFP reports: Britain and France could put a resolution to the UN Security Council this week demanding a no-fly zone over Libya.

1:20am
Associated Press - Senator John Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee says US and its allies should plan for a no-fly zone over Libya, and consider bombing the country's airports and runways, but they should take no action unless there is an international agreement.

http://blogs.aljazeera.net/live/africa/libya-live-blog-march-8

March 8
Al Jazeera speaks to Mustafa Abdel Jalil, head of the opposition National Council, about the deadline he has set Libya's embattled leader.

Timestamp:
4:35pm

Avaaz forms a petition, urging the UN Security Council to impose a no-fly zone in Libya
We urge you immediately to impose a no-fly zone on Libya to stop aerial bombings, attacks and the movement of Qaddafi's troops and weapons, which are inflicting a terrible toll on civilians, and to protect the needs and interests of the Libyan people.

http://www.avaaz.org/en/libya_no_fly_zone_3?fp

Over a million people throughout the world signed it - I guess that > 1 million people around the world knew about the requested no-fly zone and many in the states did not.
