AP - Radioactive fallout detected in California ("miniscule amounts")
Edited on Fri Mar-18-11 01:14 PM by flamingdem
Radioactive fallout detected in California

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The first radioactive fallout from Japan's crippled plant reached Southern California early Friday, but the readings indicate levels far below those that could endanger people.

An ambassador, who has access to United Nations radiation information, cited data from a California-based measuring station used in a nuclear test ban treaty.

He asked The Associated Press for anonymity because the treaty organization does not make its findings public.

1. You know, considering all the lies that have been told so far in this matter,
I don't know that I believe "minuscule" amounts. And those amounts add up over time. Plus some people are more sensitive to radiation than others.

2. This fallout will continue to arrive
making this like radiation roulette. Over time chances of exposure go up, it's not just distance.

3. South Coast AQMD disputes this...and why no link to the article?
if you're quoting an article by AP isn't it irresponsible to do so without a link?

http://www.aqmd.gov/news1/2011/Radiationmonitoring.htm

AQMD daily radiation monitoring update
for Thursday, March 17, 2011:

No increased risk detected above background levels

Video - Health Expert Discusses Radiation

As of today, radiation levels measured at three regional sites operated by the South Coast Air Quality Management District for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency have not been higher than typical “background” levels seen before the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. In the unlikely event that this changes, these extremely sensitive monitors will detect any change in outdoor radiation levels and it will be reported on this website.

AQMD has operated these radiation monitors in Southern California for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for several years. Radiation levels at these sites and many others around the country are monitored every hour and the information is sent immediately to U.S. EPA.

Name calling is a bit much when you can copy paste the first line and find hundreds of references on Google.

and no, the link was quite difficult to find among lots of links to Japan and radiation.

but why didn't you post a link in the first place? when you quote stuff aren't you supposed to provide the link/reference?

11. If "miniscule amounts" are detected in California, imagine how much more....
the radioactivity must be in Japan. Remember, this has to be detected over background radiation which is far from zero.
