E-mails to Walker show sharp divide on budget-repair law

Madison — Gov. Scott Walker's office Friday released tens of thousands of e-mails addressed to him from voters showing their sharply divided opinions about his union bargaining law.

The Republican governor said last month that e-mails sent on at least one day supported his stance on the legislation. But spokesman Cullen Werwie also acknowledged Friday that the governor's office has not done a complete tally of all of them sent on that day, only a partial review.

The e-mails were released by the governor's office as part of a settlement of a lawsuit brought by two news outlets. Walker's budget-repair law repeals most collective bargaining for public employees, though a Dane County judge for now has blocked it from taking effect.
