A chubby Australian boy has rocketed to YouTube stardom after a classmate recorded a cell phone video of him body-slamming a smaller boy who'd been taunting him in the schoolyard.

The clip shows the apparent bully, seventh-grader Ritchard Gale, teasing and punching his victim, Casey Heynes, as a gang of other kids laugh at the abuse. Heynes, who is in the 10th grade, takes the bullying for a while, but then snaps and picks Gale up and throws him down on the concrete floor. Gale eventually gets up and limps away.

Both boys were suspended from their school, Chifley College in New South Wales, outside Sydney. Gale's mother has demanded an apology for the body-slamming of her son, and the bad publicity her family has received because of the YouTube video. But public support seems to be overwhelmingly on the side of Heynes, whose father said he'd been bullied for years without fighting back.

Earlier this week in my home city of Sydney, Australia, a sickening high-school bully attack was caught on camera for the world to see.

Sixteen-year-old Casey Heynes was physically and verbally taunted by a 12-year-old student at the same Western Sydney school, who punched him in the face more than once to incite a similarly violent reaction. The little tough guy got more than he asked for when Casey, understood to be a repeat victim of bullying, retaliated by viciously body-slamming him into the concrete—with his ankles heard cracking as they hit a timber bench. A bigger version of the 12-year-old is seen stepping up to Casey to avenge his mate’s crushing defeat, only to be fended off by a female student who happens to walk by as the incident is happening.

The police were called after the fight and both students were suspended from the school for four days each. According to the Daily Telegraph, Casey’s outburst was a long time coming:

Most people I've known who broke their ankle were walking on it and had no idea it was broken at all... including one of my brothers who broke his in several places and had to have surgery where they had to put in so many plates, screws, nuts, bolts, nails and various other hardware that he was practically bionic for years.

9. I was bullied in grade school

until one day I had to make a bathroom break and beings as how our school wasn't modern we had an outhouse to use. Anyway my tormentor made the mistake in coming in there where there was only the two of us, no one jeering him on or anything and for some reason I just kicked his ass and good, for a 4th grade kid anyway. Needless to say I wasn't bothered anymore while at that school. I was one of those tall skinny kids so I got picked on a lot up too that time anyway. The word got back to our classmates about as fast as I made it back myself. Once when my tormentor got loose from me he ran back to class scared cause no one had done that to him before and that he was in trouble because of a swollen eye, blood on his lip and a bloody nose so the teach knew what happened. Anyways it made me feel good because I'd been putting up with some shit from this kid, same age as me and bigger, heavier. No longer did he bother me. Later when I got home from 'Nam I found out he was the cop at this town where i live now. We became sudo friends after that day in the outhouse though.

I trashed a group of four one day home from school, and they never bothered me again.

However, in general, I was afraid to go to school for the next five years.

Crippling the first attacker is probably some mix of adrenalinand its hyper-speed thinking mixed with pure survival instinct.

If you are attacked by multiple attackers you should take each one out of the fight as quickly as possible (55,194 Kung Fu movies can't be wrong). Notice how he doesn't turn his back on the next guy to step up.

either way, he was clearly justified and the videotape exonerates him (at least criminally). Schools can, and often do have these moronic "zero tolerance" policies, but self defense is sometimes necessary.

I was bullied, and I bloodied the kid's nose in 5th grade (iirc) and never had another problem with him.

I mean the little shit who uploaded the video, and very likely set the whole thing up. I'm betting that the skinny kid had previously been a regular punching bag for the ringleader's posse, and was offered a deal--go after the fat kid and we quit picking on you, and you get adopted as a junior member of our crowd.

Sure, it was ethically vile for the skinny kid to go for that, but the ringleader got what he wanted regardless--a nice video of a kid being made a fool of. Slightly different from the original script, but whatthehell. The ringleader can't possibly have been a friend of Mr. Skinny. Otherwise, why would he have uploaded the video at all?

I think that the mom of Mr. Skinny may actually have a legal case--provided that she gets a clue and realizes she's mad at the wrong kid.
