Well, Rick Scott made me decide to retire, my last day will be
12/1/11. I was getting ill from watching people cower and grovel. Today the newly appointed "Acting Surgeon General" wrote something very close to this: "It is a privilege and an honor to serve as Acting Surgeon General for as long as our Governor needs me..." I said out loud, "Good God! can she get her tongue any further up his rectum?" when I read that on my State of Florida computer monitor.

Now I that am only a spectator for the next eight months and a few days I feel much better. I am sure that others will choose the highway rather than his way. No one in management has said a peep about his full blown attack on state workers. It's time to go.

1. Why wouldn't you retire if you can afford to do so.
It's a luxury. Might as well take advantage of it.

3. Affording is kind of dicey, I'm leaving almost three years earlier
than I'd planned, but if Rick Scott gives me a stroke, he wins.

6. True.
You can also collect your pension and do something on the side or even better you can double dip into the federal system.

14. The federal system of what?
THERE ARE NO JOBS. Anywhere. Double dipping is a thing of the past.

12. People who aren't in our business don't get this
One of the very best teachers I ever worked with retired the day she was eligible. I told her she was such a good teacher, the kids deserved to have her stick around for a few more years, she was too young to retire. And she told me if she stuck around much longer the stress would kill her.

Many years later, I get it. I worry almost constantly about my stress level.

Other people get up go to work come home. Repeat. Not teachers. We are under incredible stress. And this current climate of being blamed for everything that supposedly ails education only makes it worse.

7. retiring now in fl
I work with many Sheriffs and they are all counting their days so they can get out before Scott wrecks their retirement. One is leaving next week and those that have the years are going now. Teachers will be also, a shame because many of those have been dedicated workers.

11. Actually I made out under Jeb. I got switched to SES, which
gave me a month of vacation instead of two weeks. free health insurance I previously had to pay part of and disability coverage. My pension also vested earlier, although that turned out not to matter.
