We are approaching 6,000 American soldiers killed in the invasions and occupations
of Iraq and Afghanistan.

To date four thousand four hundred forty American soldiers have been killed in the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Another one thousand five hundred five American soldiers have been killed in the never ending occupation of Afghanistan.

5,945 families that have been changed forever. :(

3. Just a minor pique (is that an oximoron?)
'Service members' should be used instead of 'soldiers'. Soldiers is a term for the Army. It doesn't apply to Marines, Air Force, or Navy. Just FYI.

4. You are correct - those numbers are for all of the services.
'Service members' is more correct.

6. And 30,000+ wounded (officially)
And if you're not just counting US service members, it's 1,000,000+ dead, 2,000,000+ injured.

8. Sorry I didn't see this sooner to Rec.
Very sorry so many in my country fail to understand what war is.

Most sorry for all those who've lost their lives for empire.

9. The trick was to conflate support of soldiers in harms way
with support for politicians. Basically the Bush administration used soldiers as a shield from accountability.

10. ''Human shields from impeachment.''
Absolutely, noise. Bush, like his crooked father, used the military to keep his own arse out of harm's way.

The national security state needs the oil, and no cost is deemed too high to get it -- even Justice or Democracy. For our nation no longer has either, as long as Bush and his cronies remain unpunished for treason and the rest of their high crimes, including election theft and war profiteering.

It is my belief that this unaccountable secret government goes back to November 22, 1963 when the War Party made clear who runs the State. Since then, as George W Bush said, "Money trumps peace."

13. Well, see, now what we have to do
We have to make sure they didn't die in vain, or for no good reason. More bodies! We need more bodies to throw into the machinery!
