This Week I Watched A Discovery Channel Segment On Their New Ship, "Oasis of the Seas"

They proudly announced that this new cruise ship costs $265 million dollars. What else can you get for $265 million dollars?

One of these and $45 million dollars change:

One of these and $22 million dollars change:

Two of these and $65 million dollars change:

About half of one of these:

1. What the heck is that last ship pictured?
Looks to me like a Confederate ironclad.

2. That last pic is the $5+ billion dollar Zumwalt-class destroyer.
We already paid for the first one and just ordered two more.

You think that's bad? Choke on this: Our new aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford is going to going to cost around $40 billion dollars sans people and aircraft.

3. This must be part of that "smaller government" thing the Republicans are touting this year. nt

4. We must prepare for the day
when a nuclear armed "caliphate" stretching from India to Spain reestablishes itself. I mean this is a seriously grave and present danger to America's security. :eyes:

5. And the biggest difference?
The people on board the first one are having the time of their lives and are willing to PAY for the experience.

The rest of us are paying for the others... and don't even get to take a ride.

7. Some of us are paying indirectly for the cruisers, too, via taxation inequities.

8. I'm not sure what connection you're making.
Is it that the people on the cruise are rich and are benefiting from taxcuts more than the rest of us?

I wouldn't say so. Cruising is now a VERY mainstream vacation option. There aren't enough rich people in the U.S. to fill the approx 14-15 million total passenger-trips.

13. A friend of mine who is very very rich mentioned that
My spouse and I should consider taking a cruise.

He was really trying to sell me on it. His point was that it is cheaper in some instances to be out on a cruise ship than to be at home!

If it wasn't that the two of us have become total home bodies, we would be doing as my friend suggests. If you have any expendable money at all, and live near a port where the ships take off, it truly is affordable.

6. Not sure of your point. I find all to be wretched and obscene excesses.

9. I'd rather see a fleet of luxury liners plying the oceans
than fleets of armed warships.

10. The cruise ship
pays for itself.

So your comparison is pointless.:sarcasm:

11. What's your point?
Sorry, don't get it. Personally, I'd much rather see people spend their money on a peaceful recreation vehicle than on tools of war.

Why don't you like fun????

12. I'll take the cruise ship.
Cruising is a great way to see 2 or 3 news places in one week.
