'US behind Mideast crackdowns'
Source: Press tv

A senior Iranian cleric condemns the hypocritical Western stance toward the Islamic awakening in the region, slamming the US for encouraging crackdowns on popular protests.

“The US on the one hand urges for exercising restraint and on the other hand, with its uncalled for meddling, paves the way for regional rulers to commit their crimes,” Tehran's interim Friday Prayers leader Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said, referring to the violent suppression of anti-regime protests in Bahrain, IRNA reported.

this country where the absolute majority is Shia -- and for the very charge of being Shias their rights have been violated for

3. How much of this upheaval in ME is being funded and directed by the CIA?
Any ruler in the ME that won't heel to Washington or Big Oil.. suddenly finds the country ablaze in a "Color Revolution". (Crowds show up in Green T-shirts with AK-47's)

Just saying.. it seems to be the pattern these days.. I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

5. So there is no such thing as "people power"?
that the idea that ordinary citizens have any real power is an illusion? That regime change throughout history as always been because the powers that be decided change was needed? Are you and I completely powerless to change America for example?

7. So, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain etc have not been US allies - who knew?
You could say that President Obama's Cairo speech might have lit a spark - but the truth might be that it is not all about us. It is more complicated, but it seems that the economic plight of many people in those countries and the fact that much of the population is young - with no jobs and little expectation of getting them, has fueled these revolts.

4. Imagine that - a senior Iranian cleric badmouthing the US.
What's the purpose in spreading his propaganda?

6. Are you the official propagator of Iranian propaganda?

This is as much nonsense as the other thread you started that the Saudis attacked in Bahrain to protect the American military.

Here this flies in the face of the US entering in on the UN no fly zone in favor of the protesters in Libya. In addition, we weighed in on the side of the Egyptian protesters.

Deputy Secretary of State Burns spoke at a Thursday SFRC meeting and his statement of our policy is cautiously supportive of the "Arab spring".
