One in Four Americans worried about ability to put food on the table -
Edited on Sat Mar-19-11 09:49 AM by cyberpj
I just can't believe this is my country anymore.

snip-
One in four Americans is "worried about having enough money to put food on the table in the next year," reports the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC). Their information comes from a national hunger survey conducted last month by Hart Research Associates, commissioned by FRAC and Tyson Foods, Inc. The survey found that 24 percent of respondents "indicated they are very or fairly concerned about being able to afford food at some point in the next year, while 31 percent are slightly worried."

2. I wonder how much of their income goes towards housing.
That is the thing that sucks up all the income leaving less for things like food and gas.

4. I know. With gas prices rising so fast, and food prices jumping 4% in a month
I'm also surprised this number isn't higher.

I think it's interesting that this 20% marker appears to hold somewhat solidly in other areas like Sarah Palin's hard core supporters, or GW Bush hard core supporters.... Wonder if there's some kind of correlation that can be drawn between those who are uber rich and don't worry about food prices, and those who are so strongly deluded they can't/don't see things very clearly. That 20% (+/- a couple percentage points) marker rings my bell every time I see stats like this....

7. Thanks...
especially for linking to a non-Huffpo source. They are just a news aggregator for the most part, anyway.

8. This makes me wonder how big of a percentage..........
SHOULD be worried about putting food on the table. I would think it would be higher.

THIS type of thing is what will get the masses out into the street. When you have a problem feeding yourself and your family people get REALLY pissed off. If the Dems want to win elections and not just be part of kabuki theater, they need to get in front of this. If not, somebody else WILL.

9. Raise taxes on the top 2%, eliminate taxes on the bottom 25%. No more hunger.
Or at least a whole lot less.
