"If we lose, Huda Ben Amer will hang all of us"

Today she is one of the Libyan dictator's most closely trusted lieutenants, but nearly three decades ago Ben Amer was a young woman in Benghazi keen to earn a name with the regime.

Her moment came at the public hanging of one of Gaddafi's opponents in 1984. Ben Amer rushed forward as the unfortunate man dangled from the rope, wrapped her arms around his body and used her weight to pull down until he was dead.

5. Britain and France get 90% of their oil from Libya
This piece makes sense.

The same type of propaganda bullshit was used to get us into Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.

At first, we heard how much the Iraqis needed our help to rid them of their dictator.

After he was gone, there was so much internal strife, what, over a million people died in the conflict. Not to mention our American boys killed and maimed too.

I wonder what dictator Iraq will get next.

7. OK, explain this to me then
How is launching this operation going to make things BETTER for the UK and France on the oil front? It's not like Gadhaffi had shut off the flow of oil or had set extortionist prices. He was happy as pie to sell all the oil he could pump at normal world prices, and French and British companies were in there profiting very nicely before all this, thanks to him.

So if this was all about "war for oil" as I read every other post on DU, wouldn't doing NOTHING have been the right course of action? As of Saturday morning Gadhaffi was WINNING, and a return to normalcy (for oil production) would have been just around the corner.

Or are France and Britain playing some sort of three-dimensional chess where cutting off their own oil supply and causing their companies to evacuate is going to help them?

Please, by all means, I'd love to know.
