Poll question: Should individual states vote to raise: 2% taxes on the rich and raise minimum wage 2% |
|
I was very interested when I saw on MSNBC information about the Missouri election where McCaskill won the election, due in part, to the state having a minimum wage increase on the ballot. It was said that nothing gets the voters out like a raise in the minimum wage. Well... what if, on a state by state basis, we got bills to raise taxes on the wealthiest of Americans and raise the middle class minimum wage going at the same time?
The surge of voters that might bring to the ballot boxes could cause many red elected officials to get flipped out for blue, it could raise the standard of living for minimum wage workers and the rich would finally be forced to pay a little bit more of their profits towards the support of the country that supports them.

4. minimum wage workers vote at a much lower rate than business owners and higher paid workers |
|
so I don't think you'd get a surge of voters to the ballot boxes.
and the opponents of the bill, who own the media, would incessantly push the meme that raising the minimum wage = job losses - "YOU might lose YOUR job because of this - do you still want the minimum wage raised? Well do you?"

5. The MSNBC report said 70% of voters voted for the wage increase + the turnout helped the Dems |
|
This was in reference to the Missouri ballot measure.

6. There's lots and lots of things that "should" be done but never will. |
|
Acknowledging that goes a long way to understanding reality as opposed to living in a world of wishful thinking.

7. Of course! But getting the discussion rolling on an issue like this is not a bad idea! |
|
The Democrats should be pushing this in every state! I'm just hoping some grass roots person is inspired by the conversation and starts the ball rolling!

9. Gee, I wonder what kind of response you expected here on DU - |

A close down to the wire - Don't think I'll vote on this predictable landslide.
