Christal Cathedral asks choir members to sign 'covenant' - sex in marriage of 1 man / 1 woman only
Is Crystal Cathedral’s sex covenant anti-gay?

The Crystal Cathedral has asked choir members to sign a controversial "covenant" stating that God intends sex to be between married heterosexuals.

That covenant has angered some current and former choir members who have viewed the document as "anti-gay," though church officials told Times reporter Nicole Santa Cruz that "is not the full intent" of the document.

"It's anyone who has a promiscuous lifestyle," church spokesman John Charles said.

"Crystal Cathedral ministries believes that it is important to teach and model the biblical view," reads the paragraph in the Crystal Cathedral Worship Choir and Worship Team Covenant. "I understand that Crystal Cathedral Ministries teaches that sexual intimacy is intended by God to only be within the bonds of marriage, between one man and one woman."

Senior Pastor Sheila Schuller offered a "sincere" apology Tuesday and noted that the church is "grappling with the challenge of reconciling love and adherence to God's word, even those passages that challenge us." But her father, church founder Robert H. Schuller, told the Orange County Register, which first reported the covenant, that he disagrees with the document because it goes against the principles upon which his church was built.

2. And the people in the choir are surprised
that the church they belong to is controlled by rabidly anti-gay bigots, who want to control every aspect of human sexuality? They need to get out more.

4. It's seems to me
one of the few places it would be ok to request something like that would be a church. On the other hand it wouldn't seem to be necessary because I can't imagine a gay person wanting to work/perform at that church.

9. Churches are how professional musicians pay the rent
I've worked in everything from Catholic to Southern Baptist and everything in between. Never made a secret of being gay (in fact, at most places my partner was working too) and none of them made a fuss. If all the gays leave the music ministry there will be no musis ministry.

12. The mask slipped, eh?
They better be careful. They almost came right out and said that all of this "traditional values" idiocy is really just about them wanting to control people fucking--gay AND straight.

Anyone who thinks that the gay equality struggle is a "pet issue" had better ask themselves if they EVER intend to have sex outside of a monogamous, heterosexual, for-procreation-only marriage.

13. So Liviticus 20:13 is the often quoted "if a man lie with
mankind as with a woman - etc. (see below) People love to quote this as a "proof" that we should judge and discriminate against gays. They say the bible says so - thus we must comply.

I say, look on the same page - Lev. 20:9-12 for some other things the bible says.

20:9 For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

20:10 And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

20:11 And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

20:12 And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them.

20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

If you were to try to enforce all this you'd be told - Well we have grown beyond all that, now it's no longer appropriate. ON THE SAME PAGE ? Talk about cafeteria christians picking and choosing. SUCH hypocracy!!!!
