Groupon deals for drinks dry up
Popular online discounter Groupon is going dry in Massachusetts after state officials barred the dot.com from doling out booze discounts to Bay Staters, citing the state’s ancient “Happy Hour” law.

Groupon is offering refunds to purchasers dissatisfied with the new rules, which is also now reflected in the fine print on its deals.

The Herald reported Monday that the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission warned Groupon that some of its deals — such as one offering $40 worth of food and alcohol for $20 — violated a 25-year-old state law prohibiting eateries from selling alcoholic drinks at a discount.
