Should we increase the minimum recs for greatest to 8 or 10?

I'm thinking it's getting cluttered as heck on the greatest page. I'm also thinking that people are starting to use recs as substitutes for discussion.

The whole thing is way overrated and the subject of too much whining and crying here. G-d forbid that a thread does not get enough Recs or that somebody dares to UnRec an OP. Then you have the DU names who can say anything and DUers will fall all over themselves to Rec the thread.

Get rid of the whole damn thing and end the constant kvetching.

Yes, you have not been here long enough but the complaining has not recently reached the levels in previous times. Let me say that I am highly pissed when anyone dares to UnRec my threads or any with which I agree.

I wish I had a dollar for every first response to a thread I have read that only complains about an UnRec (sometimes in the first 5 minutes after the thread was posted) and the OP goes on to make the Front page with 167 Recs. Wow, so the thread was so important that the first response had to be about something as inconsequential as the Rec popularity contest.

Think on this: if a thread is well thought out and well written and makes a good point is it any less valuable if it receives few or no Recs? There are posters here who garner Recs based upon who they are and not the quality of their OPs, more than a few that are just reposts. Of course the whole Rec/UnRec juvenility just gives DUers something they perceive as being important to bitch about.
