Has "60 Minutes" totally sold out?
I just watched a segment from the "60 Minutes" web site about counterfeit drugs, and I noticed two things.

One: Only foreign counterfeiters were fingered.

Two: Pfizer's people and ads were all over the segment.

Can we trust *ANY* news outlet, anymore?

10. You can't trust any of them - but you can trust all of them
Honestly - read as many semi-credible news orgs as possible, and then logically weigh the evidence

Note Fox is not a member

When they don't have a source (the rule used to be two sources min) note accordingly

12. they lost it for me when the blond (sorry...name) woman did a hit piece on the people
who claimed prozac made them suicidal, that it was all an invention from The Christian Science Monitor or something like that. Long ago.

Then..years later after having a number of young people commit suicide while taking prozac, they put out a warning for young people.
Now they all have a warning label about anti-depressants causing suicidal thoughts.

That aired ..22 years ago? That's when they lost me. Really crappy research and accusations on their part. Or maybe whoever made Prozac (the only SSRI at the time) had something to do with it.

She's a member of the Council on Foreign Relations which boasts the membership of leaders of 200 global corporations.

15. You have to look at the ownership.
As of 2007, over 90% of all traditional media worldwide were owned by just nine megacorporations (see FAIR at http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1406 , Pirate Radio at http://prusa.ws15.bside.com/2007/06 , and N.O.W. at http://www.nowfoundation.org/issues/communications/tv/mediacontrol.html ).

Control of the media by the powerful was facilitated by the repeal of the FCC's Fairness Doctrine in 1987 followed by the loosening of regulations limiting excessive concentration of media ownership (see Wikipedia).

17. Ads about legal drugs exist on TV for one purpose alone -
Edited on Sat Mar-19-11 11:17 PM by truedelphi
Surveys show Americans no longer go and beg their doctors for whatever drugs are advertised.

But the money is so lucrative in terms of advertising dollars, that it has effectively bought and paid for every news team and talking head out there.

Ever hear even one single M$M person use the term, "Single Payer Health Care" during the health care debate? (Well, Fox reporters might have, while using the word "Socialist" immediately after the mention.)

18. The Nation needs to start a television news network...
Perhaps partner with Amy Goodman and Democracy Now to expand their scope a bit... I know they already partnered with GRITtv earlier, but that doesn't seem to be happening the last month or so. It was a weekly partner show on really more of a commentary versus a news show, though I love GRITtv too. Maybe unite with what's being done on CurrentTV too along with Olbermann and bring over Dan Rather from HDNet, to build some size to an operation that can have more local presence. Democracy Now still does a great job for its size though.

:toast: I donated to TRN but then it turned out to be an online format. They were supported by Gore Vidal and Amy Goodman, IIRC
