I long for a return to the "hyphenated days".
I think I must have slept through them, but if Palin says we can't go back, I figure they must have been good.

“We can’t go back to that hyphenated days of, no we need to and can work together in working with Pakistan, and we have our issues there, too, and in a sense we do, but we need to work with Pakistan, but that’s one of those issues that we need to work on, as we strengthen our allies, there…”

Take my hand, loyal DUers; we shall turn back the clock together.

22. I think she means the opposite of halcyon - she's referring to past conflict
Edited on Sun Mar-20-11 12:11 PM by petronius
If this was a written speech, my bet would be that she decided that something like "divided" was too common, looked for a synonym, and came up with "hyphenated"...

5. So many grammar errors in one sentence.
How did she get her degree in communications, journalism, or whatever degree it was that required her to have a working knowledge of putting words together? I mean I have a problem with grammar because I was raised in a house with one parent who never made it past the fifth grade and the other one an immigrant for whom English was not a first language, but I thought her father was a teacher.

20. Yeah, and I think it's pathological
I think the woman is hypomanic. It would explain so much about her whole life as well as her word salad and inability to see anything through to completion.

Her talents have exceeded those of Mrs. Malaprop by enough that it's evidence of illness.

BTW, live blogging of that speech is at http://punditcommentator.blogspot.com/2011/03/happy-holi-live-blogging-sarah-palins.html

17. "Hyphenating" has a specific meaning in the context of India and Pakistan
Edited on Sun Mar-20-11 12:12 PM by Denzil_DC
See Google.

Palin obviously remembered it from the Cliff Notes she was given, but not only did she do her usual grammar-mangling, she "hyphenated" India and Pakistan all over again (linking them together in US foreign policy terms) in the accompanying word salad, which probably went down well with the audience.

18. Without George W. Bush there would be no Sarah palin.

Without his butchery of the English language and all-around (pardon the hyphen) ignorant absurdity she wouldn't have stood a chance at her notoriety.

Inheriting down "dumb" is the best way I am able to parlay that in SarahSpeak.

Check out the emcee's speech introducing Palin. IT IS A SCREAM. He completely eviscerates her. You will laugh out loud until tears roll down your face. Sorry, I'm not tech savvy, but you can find it on Gryphen's Immoral Minority site. DON'T MISS THIS!!!!

Write random words beside each other on the page and call it a speech?

Reading anything that woman says is almost as bad as hearing her say it. It's always a bad mind fuck. Excedrin, here I come.

26. There are no perfect good ole days
For example, I hear a lot of DUers celebrating the 1950's and 1960's as a time of a rising middle class and strong labor unions. Fine. That's true.

But then there was the glass ceiling for women (and a good many women and girls were still discouraged from even working at all), discrimination against blacks (no, it did not magically end after the civil rights act of 1964 and the VRA either). And MUCH MORE homophobia than exists today.
