Edited on Sat Dec-25-10 08:38 PM by Elwood P Dowd
Born here in Alabama and lived here 57 of my 63 years. The others were spent in Georgia, Kentucky, and a couple of years in Washington, DC. There were a few big ones of 10-12 inches or more when I lived in KY and DC, but never on Christmas.

It's only an inch or two but enough to give me a totally white front and back yard for a White Christmas. I'll drink to that.

Your storm is hitting us in the morning.

4. In 1972 I was living in Arlington, and there was a big one with over a foot in places.
It was totally unexpected if I remember. Really freaked people out.

5. I'd like to see some snow too.
We get snow about once every ten years on the gulf coast, and it never snows on Christmas. It's pretty cold outside tonight and the wind is howling and I can hear rain drops beating against my windows. If it will just get about five degrees cooler, I think we'll get some snow. I've got my fingers crossed.

6. 2004 in south Texas. 14 inches on Christmas Eve overnight. Gorgeous,
Everyone loved it.

One story reported was how a family celebrated with their grandkids. The grandpa said it was the best day of his life. He died in his sleep Christmas night.

25. I remember that year -
each year if it snows here I take pictures. When I was growing up in rural Wisconsin and dreaming of moving away it never occurred to me that I might actually miss the snow one day.

What a peaceful day -- long walk, nap, shoveling out some of the elderly neighbors, nap, reading, nap...

Tomorrow a.m. looks pretty dicey because of ice, be careful out there!

22. We didn't get it down here in Rockingham yet
but it'll be here late tonight from what they are saying. It works out perfectly for me, because I was too busy cooking and all today to get to enjoy snow. Tomorrow, it'll be leftovers and that means I can go out and play like a little kid in the snow...as I usually do. I love it!

36. My aunt has already said to leave the phone with her.
She is going to bed soon. She said if I go outside to just let her know. If I don't come back inside after a couple hours of playing or if she hears anything strange, she'll call for help.

Either I'll just go play a couple hours or I'll land flat on my ass hard enough to bruise something. Either way, I usually enjoy snow pretty much. My aunt knows me backwards and forwards.

37. You should see what happens here when it snows where it's not supposed to
Edited on Sun Dec-26-10 06:44 AM by SoCalDem
In the 80's we had a freakish snow here (melted by noon the next day), but people were freaked out to see snow on palm trees:), and people were doing demolition derby all the way to work..

I made it just fine to work (57 miles through the badlands on the 60 out to Cathedral City (from Moreno Valley)..
When I got there at 4:45 AM, they could not believe I "made it"..and informed me that "the 60 is CLOSED from Riverside to Indio" :)

I reminded them that living 7 years next to Lake Michigan , and then Kansas City & Denver, had made me immune to snow:)

Yes, the Earth is warming, but the flat earthers don't know how to correllate that with snow in the South.

13. Bright and sunny, 56 degrees in Denver today...
Though we've certainly had our share of snow in the past, no white Christmas for us--though the mountains have been inundated.

That probably means some massive storms coming in the New Year and into spring....

Enjoy your first Christmas Snow. It can be quite nice.

15. Snow on Christmas day must be wonderful! We had rain earlier today & it's
pretty cold outside (in the lower 40's). No complaints, though -- if I know I couldn't drive across the bridge due to ice/snow to get to my Mom's, I'd get nervous. Tomorrow's supposed to be sunny. :)

Enjoy the beautiful snow & be safe!

18. My hometown didn't get a white Christmas, but
the towns to our north and west did. We will get our snow overnight, but I figure it's close enough for me for it to count, at least unofficially. I'll have more time to enjoy it tomorrow than I would have had today with cooking and all...and I will be enjoying it when it gets here. Snow is a 3 or 4 times a year type thing here, so it's special when it does snow. Just hope we don't lose our power.

I'm heading to Orlando Florida for a bowl game tomorrow. I'm already tired of winter and we're not even in January yet. It's snowed here twice before Christmas and now on Christmas this year. Usually, it doesn't come until January. Looks like a wet winter is in store.

41. Enjoy!
Last Christmas, I was heading back to Norman, OK, from my friend's parents' home in Charleston, SC. We made the Atlanta to Little Rock drive in no time. My husband called to inform me that the inch or two Oklahoma was supposed to get turned into 8 inches of winddriven misery, that started with ice (so there was a layer of ice under the white stuff). The police shut down the borders coming into Oklahoma. Hundreds got stranded on the roads. Despite all the years I spent driving in NJ, I was afraid of the Texans and Okies on the road. We stopped for the night and it took us 6 hours to go 140 miles on Christmas day. I was unamused.

Usually, we are buried here by now, but last year, and this year so far, we have had practically no snow. South of us, which gets no snow usually, has been getting hammered. Weird.
