It's been pouring with heavy winds here in Venice for the last 10 hours or so.
Power just came back on after being blown out an hour ago.
I love how people don't understand that 40 min can make a big difference in weather here.

12. We had way too much rain all fall, and then as soon as New Year's rolled around it stopped cold,
right when the rain normally starts in seriousness. And it's been boring, though windy and cold, until now.

Making up for lost time today, that's for sure!

17. and today was the los angeles marathon...
some of the runners apparently thought it was great.... others said they were cold which made them a bit stiff.

I just went out because I absolutely needed milk and there are some traffic lights out and you couldn't drive on the right side of the boulevard due to flooding especially at intersections. but I HAD to go out.....

27. I'm in Lomita. Mostly light rain. And intermittent. However, I did
go downtown, Philippe's and Echo Park, and it did pour like crazy coming back. Mostly in the south LA area. Then I went to Manhattan Beach, and moderate continuous rain over there.
One thing I have found about Los Angeles, after my 60 odd years here, not always all year, is that different parts of the city get different amounts of rain. It's a big city.

47. Near there.
The IE is pretty much smack in between that area and OC. People in LA and OC probably would consider Hemet and Idyllwild as part of the Inland Empire, but the locals would disagree as that area is trying to hold on to it's rural roots; the IE has tuned into one gigantic housing development for people who can't afford homes nearer the coast.

Includes Riverside and San Bernardino Counties (thanks Codeine :hi: ). Parts east of L.A.-proper. And if you get to Palm Springs you've gone too far.

Flash flood watches issued for Santa Monica, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Mandeville Canyon, Agoura, Calabasas, Woodland Hills, Topanga Canyon & Santa Monica Mountains etc. High surf advisory up to 8 feet. Big stuff. Wow - they're talking about an inch-and-a-half to TWO inches of rain per hour. That's a lot for these dry parts. We've been in drought conditions for years now. Snow levels expected to bottom out at 4,000 feet in the local mountains.

We get a break on Tuesday and then more is expected in on Wednesday and on into next weekend - according to the latest forecast.

EVERYBODY STAY AWAY-AWAY-AWAY FROM THE LA RIVER!!!!

41. Yeah, no shit. An emergency broadcast alert just interrupted the programming on KTLA.
My husband and I realized it's the first and only actual alert that we've ever heard. Santa Monica and Malibu - flooding expected. They're saying stay away, danger. Yikes.

It has been pouring since the wee hours here in West LA. And I'm writing this at just a few minutes before 6pm Sunday evening.

And on top of that, some of the local streets were already impassable because they were blocked off for the LA Marathon. Wonder how THAT managed, on a day like this! I was talking to a couple of our son's friends just awhile ago and saying how glad I was that I hadn't tried to book his band to play for the Marathon. They've played marathons before. This would have been just murder. And nobody around here knows how to drive anymore, anyway, particularly when it's raining.

The wind's been blowing, too. So sometimes the rain comes down at a diagonal.

L.A. Marathon: Thousands evaluated for hypothermia
March 20, 2011 | 4:58 pm

Thousands of runners at the Los Angeles Marathon have been evaluated for hypothermia and 25 have been transported to local hospitals, according to Santa Monica fire Capt. Judah Mitchell.

"Most of them sat and recovered on their own," Mitchell said.

At 4:40 p.m., he said around 70% of runners have completed the 26.2-mile race from Dodger Stadium to Ocean Avenue and California Avenue in Santa Monica. There were 23,542 entrants, 9.6% less than last year. The number of people who showed up to run, though, has not yet been released.

The runners battled torrential rains and shin-deep puddles. About 1.72 inches of rain have fallen in Santa Monica and downtown while two inches of rain have fallen in Beverly Hills.
