Anyone Listen to today's edition of "On the Media " ?? (NPR)
Edited on Sun Mar-20-11 06:58 PM by 2banon
OTM did an interview with what's-his-idiot-face who likes to think of himself as an "undercover investigative reporter".

You know the ass-hat whose name I loath to mention: James O'Keefe.

The one who actually lied about presenting himself as a pimp at an ACORN office which amazingly led to Acorn's complete undoing, and as of late the so called "NPR Sting" leading to yet another ridiculous over reaction on the part of NPR executives due to this so called faux sting..

Well, if you've been following the lastest of his antics on the so called "NPR Sting", you might be interested in listening to the interview with what's his face. I found it to be amusing and somewhat revealing.

The interview as heard on air includes an edited version for broadcast purposes (as is done normally).. but following the interview is commentary first noting disclosure of the editing (for broadcast purposes) in addition to a well done audio play on how the segment could have been edited for broadcast purposes.

The segment I refer to as an audio play was a pretty decent slap in the face to James O'Keefe.

More importantly it was a loud "this is how sound editing works" message to other journalists as well as listeners at large.

Might they finally heed the lesson(s).

Not that I'm a huge fan of NPR.. I personally think they pander to the Rigt Wing Nuts, their propaganda and their ilk, and rarely if ever give PROGRESSIVES a voice or perspective. NPR likes to think of themselves as "Center Balanced".. ha! ha!

note:

I haven't figured out how to embed audio and video players directly into posts. If anyone can help me out, please pm me, I'd sure would appreciate that assistance!

1. Edited...by Brooke
NPR-OTM was the only show to criticize the government during the Bush "cult of personality" era. They are the best. Thanks for the post.

3. They are also doing a story on the "Liberal Bias"
NPR is accused of by those that want to cut funding.

One thing they are doing is asking conservative listeners to keep a diary to record when they hear instances of bias.

I wrote them asking if they would do the same with liberal listeners because as mentioned by Brooke in the first piece of this series there are some, like yourself, who perceive a bias or at least as you put it a pandering to the right.

6. I know.. I almost tossed up my coffee when I heard that!

caught me just as I was downing a big gulp. They just won't go there at all.. it makes me crazy, but they'll bend over and around for the right wing nuts.. All I want to tell them is: Hey, Repukes don't like you, they never liked you, and always threaten funding every single time they're power, and they've been doing for decades. So screw CPB funding, end this nightmare, go for more private foundation funding, and take a LEFT TURN for once!

8. I hear ya..
I'm blessed to be living in area where there a few alternatives with regard to progressive radio.. another NPR station,KALW that actually does decent public affairs from the studio. And then there's KPFA.. but mileage varies with programming.

10. I heard this interview on the 18th and was shocked
Edited on Sun Mar-20-11 08:37 PM by soryang
...at how poorly the host did interviewing OKeefe, it was embarrassingly amateurish. The interviewer hadn't done his homework. He allowed OKeefe to impersonate a legitimate journalist and get away with it. It was pathetic.

A media critic from mediamatters.org commenting on this situation brought up the John Stewart joke "that NPR brings a tote bag to a gun fight."

12. OTM works as an anchor program for NPR's RW nuttery.
This time OTM carefully left out details pointing to the disingenuousness of the prior stories surrounding O'Keife while introducing him.

Instead, NPR concentrated on exonerating themselves in the case of their own being stung allowing the prior stings' misconceptions to remain.

NPR needs a government investigation house cleaning, a Church commission revisited.

14. I heard it--that was an AWESOME interview. O'Keefe gave the kind of pablum answers the MSM would
nod and write down, but the interviewer kept after him with tough follow ups.

It made me want to donate to NPR.
