This Libyan situation really shows the character of many Americans |
|
And it's a very poor showing.
I am reminded of people who will stand around while a person is seriously injured rather than render aid. Often they will offer an excuse for their actions such as "I didn't want to be sued".
IMO it's one of many convenient excuses to cover your own ass at the expense of others. Damn near NO ONE in this country is willing to think of anyone but themselves. In fact I would say it has gotten to the point that many people (sadly not just republicans) actually scorn people who risk their own wellbeing to help another.
All I can say is that, as in most matters, I'm behind the president on this one 100%.

3. I understand why they would not want to get into another war |
|
but this is nothing like the lyes told to us by the Bush administration to needlessly attack Iraq. This is a crazy person committing crimes against humanity against his own people, and we already have a bad history of standing around watching that happen.

record for governance by an insane person.
i'm surprised there are any libyans left alive in the country after 40-years of rule by an insane killer such as we are told khaddafi is.

4. so when do we invade China, Sudan,Yemen, N.Korea...every other country where their leader is bad? |
|
My problem comes from a group of people who are anti war when Bush does it, but seem to love it and wave flags as soon as Obama does it. You must admit it seems to stink of hypocrisy.
Libya didnt attack us, so why are we attacking them? We are not the world's police officers.

10. No, this is about defending the blah blah blah and hypocrisy |
|
I swear Obama could stomp a dozen kitties on live tv with steel toed boots and some would say the kitties deserved it and needed to die.
War is bad when Bush does it, but when Obama does it....
It cannot go both ways

8. It really shows that some Americans support murdering more civilians than we could hope to prevent |
|
I don't help a seriously injured person unless I know what I'm doing, I can only make the situation worse. Just like we are certain to make the situation worse, just like Iraq, Afghanistan, Iraq the first time, Vietnam....

12. I think the problem is more that we're just generally sick of war and violence |
|
In addition, a lot of people have finally made the connection between the number of wars going on and their own declining standard of living.
Once Gadhafi started to use the billions he looted from the country to hire a huge mercenary army to attack his own citizens, I think the UN decision was inevitable. I hope this time it will be restricted to enforcing a no fly zone. Without air support, his mercenaries might start to realize no price is worth it. That's the gamble, anyway.
At least this time it's a real UN action instead of a hastily cobbled together coalition of the paid off offering token support in an illegal war.
I think people here might reluctantly agree with the action in greater numbers had Obama actually gotten us completely out of Iraq and be withdrawing the last of the US forces from Afghanistan.
Unfortunately, this is being seen as another damned oil war and one no one wants to fight.

If we had real Change, maybe we could really be Hoping for the best. As it is: just more of the same.
And, I believe, the OP is a crock of smelly bs.

It has hardly ever been used and is better than new.
I can see from your OP that you are a most discerning collector of bridges.

15. I'm behind him as well and believe we're doing the right thing, but this obviously |
|
is something people feel very strongly about, for a myriad of reasons. I don't recall the last time I've seen DUers so at each others' throats.
I believe that even those who are against this action care about the people of Libya, but are against any additional military action from our country.
Be a little less judgmental, these are good people here, you know that. Don't be like those who are calling us 'warmongers'. They're wrong and I think your picture of them is, too.
There ARE those who just say "their problem, not ours" but they're in the minority I think.
