The republicans are already making plans to give the rich another tax cut in March.
Edited on Tue Dec-14-10 12:08 PM by Joanne98
Sen Bob Corker was on CNBC this morning talking about holding the "raising the debt limit" hostage to get a 28% tax rate for the rich!

The new Frank Luntz code words are "broadening the base" (tax base)

The cat food commission's rec. Closing loopholes and lowering rates.

I know a lot of gullible Democrats are going to think this is a good idea. It's NOT!

Remember Charlie Brown, Lucy and the football.

The MINUTE you lower the rates and close the loopholes the republicans will immediately, whip out new Frank Luntz talking points and say "The rich are job creators and they need INCENTIVES in the tax code to hire more people. blah blah blah.

Then they'll campaign in 2012 using words like INCENTIVES, FLEXIBILITY and DYNAMIC! Which will all be code words for BRING BACK THE LOOPHOLES!

Then we'll be stuck with a 28% tax rate for the rich with loopholes too!

And since our party is packed full of fucking traitors they will get help from some Democrats LIKE,

Kent Conrad who was just on Fox saying the exact same thing Corker said this morning!

We need to prepare for this NOW and not get caught by surprise again like we just did with Obama's super-cave.

Just a thought.

1. Why would Conrad want this? These conserva-Dems are killing me, and
I'm a centrist Dem.

14. I would hope they're not that personally greedy. I chalk it up to
their home states being red and their having drunk the conservative Kool-Aid. But some days I am tempted to think along your lines...x(

27. The 'deficit commission' was his and Gregg's idea. He pushed for its creation &, as a member,
he voted for their plan. Of course, he's going to push to get as much of their proposals through as possible.

Conrad is vile. He was one of Baucus' gang of six thugs who worked hard to kill the public option. He whined incessantly that the PO would kill hospitals in ND because Medicare reimbursement rates were so low there. He got a deal from Reid where the Medicare rates for ND were adjusted and he still refused to support a public option.

15. The ultra rich completely own Congress. Hell majority of Republicans support raising taxes on rich.
Edited on Tue Dec-14-10 12:24 PM by Statistical
Think about that for a second.

The only people Congress is representing is the people it was paid to represent (rich, power, corporations, and lobbyists). Anyone thinking otherwise is just fooling themselves. The whole Rep vs Dem "war" is merely a smokescreen to hide the fact that Congress votes how the people who bought it wants them to vote.

Witness 70%+ support for ending tax cuts on rich (bipartisan support) - yet they are extended.
70%+ support for public option - yet vote was never even allowed.

This isn't a Republican vs Democrat thing, or even a centrist vs blue dog vs liberal thing. This is Congress is representing people it just isn't representing you and me.

17. Usually Dems have a cover reason, though. I wonder if Conrad's rationale
is either Trickle Down or Create Jobs...

11. Whatever hare-brained supply-side wet dream is vomited forth
We can all rest assured that it will be "the best deal we can get," that we're fooling only ourselves if we think we can stop it, and that we are simultaneously the most negligible sector of the body politic and the most obstinately obstructive, having both great ignominy and great power at the same time.

No, it doesn't make any sense, but that's the way it will be. Oh yeah, and ponies.

23. Well that can't be true
I've got an outstanding bet that the Catfood Commission would blow its deadline (it did), jettison its own rules (checkaroonie), and that in the name of deficit reduction as recommended by the commission, benefits for future retirees would be cut (spoiler alert).

19. We've got to get people to understand that "less government"
means more fees and expenses WE pay instead of Uncle Sam or the rich...the bills have to be paid - so who do these idiots screaming for less government and taxes for the rich, think will have to end up paying? They need to know it's US...paying to give the luxury of a free ride to the rich...we comp their life...

28. The debate over raising the debt limit will see the Republicans & DINOs pushing every CFC proposal..
It will be another hostage situation where they will hold the entire country hostage unless we agree to Austerity, American style.

Get ready, people. It's coming your way in about 5 months.

32. Obama is already outlining a proposal around Simpson's tax plan.
Edited on Tue Dec-14-10 06:55 PM by pa28
From The Wall Street Journal

Obama Weighs Tax Code Revise

If Simpson's framework is actually used we'll have a massive tax cut for the wealthy paid for by restricting deductions and credits associated with lower and middle class earners.

The class slaughter is about to move into high gear and Obama appears to be leading the way.
