I was in Nevada for 2 weeks helping my mother. I talked to a lot of older and younger Conservatives there. They are really pissed at Republicans.

How can they not be? Every stupid article I read I put on facebook now. At least half my friends on there are VERY conservative peeps from where I grew up and even they are starting to be sort of...embarrassed by the extremes.

I didn't see a strip mall where at least half the store fronts weren't empty. There were so many people trying to seel their blood or plasma that it formed long lines.

Big Corporations can weather an economic down turn much longer. In Vegas, where the Unemployment is very high and locals are not spending, the go quick.

I also noticed that the number of people along the strip is way down over what it was in 2005 and 2006.

The Sahara is going out of bussiness as of May 16.

Yes I do realize the 2 are pretty much the same thing, but the tea party fielded candidates who made promises of cutting spending and creating jobs. Something they have shown no interest in doing now that they are elected.

Some dems need to go as well; in fact, any elected offical who can be identified as taking money from corporations (in exchange for their votes) need to be RECALLED immediately! overlooking, IMO. And they're overlooking it because, like some/most generals, THEY'RE FIGHTING THE LAST WAR.

THAT'S why the public is doing a yo-yo between the two parties every election cycle. The electorate knows what they want, even if they can't articulate it. THEY WANT SOMEBODY THAT'S UNEQUIVOCALLY ON THEIR SIDE! Not just in words, but in action. Until one party or another, gives them this UNEQUIVOCAL support in ACTION, they will continue to vacillate.

The public doesn't care anymore if it's supply side economics or socialism or something in between that gives them a better life, they just want that better life. Now the ideologues on the right (just say the Republican Party, whether Teabag or Regular) won't give them that better life because they're tied to 30 years of supply side AND EVEN THE PUBLIC KNOWS THAT WON'T WORK. So it's up to the Dems to provide that REAL alternative. IF the Dems DO NOT provide that REAL alternative, the public will vote for more and more drastic versions of supply side, even if they don't think that it'll work. And those more drastic measures, of course, will make their lives even MORE miserable.

At some point, this situation will lead to a hot revolution/civil war IF THE DEMS DON'T STEP UP AND PROVIDE A REAL ALTERNATIVE! Stop fighting the Reagan tsunami Dems. That's over and has BEEN over for 6/7 years. You don't have to become Republican Lite just to survive, you can actually step up and DO something. If you don't, someone else will.

Poll after poll shows that on many issues we are not that far apart as a nation, with the exception of the 'haves' and the 'have-nots'. Finally a lot of the 'have-nots' are waking up to the fact that their plight is miserable and they are being USED. REALLY USED.

29. Things change every month or so sometimes

The dems had huge leads on 538 in the start of 2009. Statistics showed the dems would likely pick up something like 5+ extra senate seats in 2010 giving them 64 or more in the federal senate.

But disillusionment among the base, disappointment among independents and anger among conservatives all tipped the scale.

Right now the opposite is happening, I hope. Liberals are feeling energy, independents are getting turned off the GOP and conservatives hopefully will become fat and happy.

But there is no telling what will happen between now and 2012.

I was reading a book called 'why zebras don't get ulcers' and it talked about how a sense of control could reduce stress. But the author said it was a double edged sword, because people who have control and lose it have more stress and problems than people who never had control at all. aka, it is better to never have something than have it and lose it, you will end up worse if you lose it.

Obama and the dems ran as progressives then governed as new england republicans. They offered to fight for the working class, then triangulated. The end result is more disillusionment and apathy than would've happened if they had just been honest and said 'we are running the same platform republicans in the early 90s ran'.

The 2012 Democratic Platform


We will pass new tax laws that spread the tax burden fairly across the economic spectrum, with those benefiting most from our society contributing commensurately.

We will pass law to protect the right of workers to organize and have a voice in the operation of US businesses. This will include raising the minimum wage to $20.00 per hour to ensure a reasonable standard of living for all working families and to stimulate our sluggish economy.

We will pass law to provide Medicare for All so no American is denied care or has to suffer financial hardship because of health problems, and no American businesses are saddled with health costs that keep them from competing fairly with foreign competitors. This plan will include a “safety net” to guarantee every citizen is provided the food and shelter necessary to survive difficult challenges in their lives.



We will withdraw of all US military and contracted personnel from Iraq and Afghanistan. Instead of the hundreds of billions of dollars and thousands of lives being wasted on these wars, we will instead provide aid to these countries, and to other depressed areas where atrocious conditions breed terrorists.

We will order the Department of Justice to investigate those who led us into these wars to determine if war crime charges are warranted. If so, they will be prosecuted with vigor and any ill-gained profits shall be returned to the people.

We will order the Commerce Department to present a holostic plan for maintaining and advancing the infrastructure of our great country.

We will order the Secretary of Education to present new plans to guarantee all Americans have access to our public schools, from pre-kindergarten through advanced degrees.

We will order Homeland Security to present a new plan for securing our borders from those who would do us harm while allowing appropriate travel and visitation to our many friends around the world. This plan is to include a path to citizenship for those who serve in the US military, or who came here as children and are now productive members of our society.

We will order the Department of Energy to begin another “Manhattan Project” to enable us to cease our dependence on fossil fuels. At the same time, I am announcing the nationalization of all US oil and gas reserves, as well as other reserves owned by the citizens of the US that are currently being extracted from our soil for private profit without regard for our environment.

We will order the Department of Justice to begin immediately to root out crimes of corruption within our government. In concert with this, I want Congress to pass laws to ensure elected officials are serving for the benefit of the American people as a whole, not to gain wealth or power for themselves or their friends.


And finally, we are asking you, the People, to help with the most critical problem facing our Democracy today. We’re asking you, the People, to pass a Constitutional Amendment prohibiting political spending by corporations or any other entity or individual not qualifying as a person with citizenship in this great country.


These and other policies we will put in place will cause a sea-change in how our country serves the citizens - We the People - rather than a tiny handful of super-wealthy who would subvert our democracy and plunder our wealth while denying even the most basic services for our citizens.
