Afraid to Watch the News, Millions Turn to Fox
Afraid to Watch the News, Millions Turn to Fox
Posted on Mar 20, 2011
by Andy Borowitz

NEW YORK—With unprecedented crises engulfing the world, millions of television viewers are finding the news too stressful to watch—and are turning to the Fox News Channel instead.

“Things are so bad in the world right now, many people are afraid to watch the news,” says psychologist Davis Logsdon of the University of Minnesota, who studies the relationship between news consumption and stress. “For them, Fox News represents a welcome break from reality.”

Tracy Klugian, 37, a systems analyst from Lansing, Mich., said that he was flipping the channels to find “anything but news” and found himself watching Fox for the first time. “They had this guy on—something Beck I think his name was—and he was just going on and on, making stuff up,” he said. “I was like, this is the kind of mindless junk I need right now.”

Klugian says he now records the program and watches it every day when he gets home from work: “For one hour at least, I know that I can kick back and not hear anything that’s going on in the world.”

He said that watching Fox had also introduced him to “my favorite new comedian—this hysterical woman named Michele Bachmann.”

2. Sadly Too Many Believe The Bullshit...
This article proves how lazy this country has become...and how its been exploited by those who have spent the better part of the last 30 years distorting reality and the truth with talking points that are the lifeblood of Faux Noise. While there are those who watch for the humor and the absurdity...or others to see what outrage will be played next, there are still many who turn to that electronic cesspool for a daily affirmation...to provide the talking points and lies that they've not only come to expect but demand. Call it misery loving company.

:hi:

5. I'll start by saying that I don't have TV at home
While at work, as the crisis was unfolding, the only channels on the TV in the break room covering the Japanese crisis were Faux and CNN. Here's the freaky, freaky, freaky part. Faux was being more like a news station and getting better information on quicker than CNN - I had no idea that they even knew what news coverage actually meant! Luckily, as the crisis moved into a few days duration, things returned to normal. I tell you, I was stunned.

13. Broken Clock Syndrome...
Chicken Noodle Nuze coverage has been a sad joke. Unforutnately since ComcastMSNBCGE has to show prison shows all weekend...or whatever coverage is done by the "B" team with the same video and "news" repeated over and over, I can see why people tuned to Faux just due to the need to find something/anything. I avoided that "temptation". I stuck with reports I was seeing posted here on DU and other news sites.

I did tune in to CNN (out of desperation) and saw the usual suspect with the usual talking points. There was some good reporting (Gary Tuchman has been doing very good work) but for every one minute of substance there was 15 minutes of psychobabble...the "experts" who were attempting to tell me what I saw.

Our corporate media has so dumbed down what is considered "news" that when real reporting does show up people don't know how to relate to it.

Cheers...

6. the constant Fox watchers
are becoming more and more removed from reality. I've been around some of them. They live in a parallel universe. Yes, they want lies because reality is too grim.

Yes, I know that he is, but satire sometimes hits too close to the bone to be funny.

16. What is so unfortunate is that, in today's world, this is almost believable.
But truly, the folks who watch faux news are not just escapists...they are ignorant, easily-lead, overly gullible blokes who would rather have faith in ANYTHING but knowledge.
