Army apologizes for the pictures, not the crime of killing for sport
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/03/21/us-army-apologizes-for-afghanistan-abuse-pictures/

"We apologize for the distress these photos cause," said a statement released by the Army.

German weekly Der Spiegel earlier Monday published photos that it said showed two US soldiers in Afghanistan from a rogue army unit posing with dead Afghans.

Two photos, which Spiegel said US authorities had sought to keep secret, appear to show two members of a unit that allegedly killed Afghan civilians for sport.

Where have we gone wrong as a nation? We are a Christian nation? A just nation? Wow.

2. Much, if not most, of what gets classified is to protect operations from...
...We the People. "National Security" is the cry of those who want to get away with murder, warmongering and treason.

I blame this nation's "Ownership Class," aka the "War Party" or, their public front, the BFEE. They are part Wall Street, Mafia, Big Oil, Big Pharma, the Military-Industrial Complex, the KKK, the neo-conmen, the NAZI-CIA Axis -- all working to make America into a Haiti for the 21st Century and the planet into one big neo-confederate plantation.

6. Standard issue non-apology apology
Yeah, you're all "distressed" by these photos. This is the work you commissioned and paid for in Afghanistan. You shouldn't be distressed, because it happens every fucking time we wage a war, but it happens a lot more when we launch the invasion. Oh, well, we'll call it a "rogue" army unit, just for the window dressing aspect of it, but the reality is this is why we send in the troops - to kill, maim, intimidate the populace, and mutilate the bodies. It sends just the right message, and if you're "distressed" by that, well, saw-ree. I suppose a little truth in advertising might be useful, but the public just loves those snappy uniforms and the "teamwork" videos where they blow up a piece of space junk. So, don't look for the public line to be modified anytime soon. If we tell parents that we're sending Little Marblehead overseas to collect body part trophies, they might not like that.

7. They don't need to apologize for the killings
They just need to prosecute the killers.

Murder is an infraction in the UCMJ.

8. the problem is being caught, not the acts committed
The bad attention must be diverted and swept under the carpet, so more killings can be committed. This is the military that is now "saving Libya"... :eyes:

9. Shame on you...
The Army statement said the actions seen in the pictures were "repugnant to us as human beings and contrary to the standards and values of the United States Army."
