State Sen. Kevin Parker gets probation for busting up newspaper photographer's car and camera
Hot-tempered State Sen. Kevin Parker skirted jail time on Monday when he was sentenced to probation for damaging a photographer's equipment and car.

The Brooklyn pol will serve three years of probation, attend an anger management course and have to pay $1,672 in fines and damages for the May 2009 altercation near his mother's Flatbush home.

Prosecutors asked for a month in jail, noting Parker had more violent dust-ups in his past and that the New York Post shutterbug, William Lopez, had to replace his busted vehicle.

"Glad it is over," the senator said as he left the courtroom. "I think my constituents understand my passion."

Defense attorney Lonnie Hart told the judge that Parker's political passion can sometimes be confused with anger. He argued that the case should have never gotten this far in the first place.

While the Senate's Republican majority stood idle, Parker's Democratic colleagues rewarded him with a $9,000 annual bonus on appointment as ranking member of the Energy Committee.
