Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin breaks with Obama on debt limit
When it's time to count votes on raising the nation's debt ceiling, the Obama administration won't be able to put Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin in its column.

The West Virginia senator, who is up for re-election in 2012, made another high-profile break today from President Obama and told a University of Charleston audience that he won't vote to allow the government to borrow more money unless the proposal comes with a plan to cut back on spending and reduce debt.

"I will vote to against raising the debt ceiling unless the vote is linked to a real budget plan that begins to fix our fiscal mess," Manchin said. "We cannot make budgets based on the next election; they must be based on the next generation."

Manchin this month has staked out his opposition to Obama, first saying the president has "failed to lead" on the budget, then refusing to tell a Politico reporter whether he'll vote for Obama in 2012.

1. He's a real piece of shit
He's only been in office a few months and I already dislike him as much as Joe Loserman.

Why doesn't he just come out of the closet and admit he's a republican?

2. I've warned folks here about him.
In my estimation he's the worst DINO in the Senate, counting Lieberman (who isn't even a Democrat in name anymore). It's hard to think of anything good about him right now except he is not John Raese, his GOP opponent.

3. What we really need is a true head count of the Senate and House -
how many real Democrats are there? I think Obama has been working with a majority Republican congress in both houses since Day 1.

5. I seriously don't think we want that.
Moderate/liberal Democrats are probably outvoted 3-1 by Republicans/DLCers/blue dogs.

13. What is a "real Democrat" iyo?
IMO we don't have any left. Senator Sanders but he is a Socialist/Independent and not a Democrat. It would be good to know if there are truly any "real Democrats" left standing..

6. I agree. Shut 'er down until military spending is cut to the bone.
Oh, oops ... that's not what Manchin is suggesting, is it? ;-)

8. Obama caved on tax cuts for the rich.
And so did the U.S. Senate.

The Repukes have framed it as a battle over how much to cut -- and the Dems have made no effort to note that the problem is the wholesale transfer of resources from the poor and middle class to the wealthy.

failed to lead

fuck you Joe.

Repuke lie in comments below story:

I came across information that the Obama admin in 2009 had given $400,000 from taxpayer stimulus to Gadhafi charities. The link on the story was from a CBS affiliate in Chicago. Funny thing was, although that link took you to the site.....the story was now gone. Removed. Gee, I wonder why? The fact that people aren't trusting what they feed us is for good reason.

11. Are people surprised? I am not..
"moderate/Blue Dog" dems are republicans in disguise..

Their numbers are "needed" when it comes to determining majority, but they cannot ever be counted on..

12. Anyone who listens to Head on Radio already knows Manchin
He's anything but a Democrat and has his head so far up the ass of extraction industries, I'm surprised he didn't suffocate decades ago.
Just another corporate friendly power monger. If WV has any sense, they'll toss him to the curb as soon as possible. It wouldn't hurt if the rest of us could help make it happen.
