McCaskill will sell 'the damn plane'

Sen. Claire McCaskill is selling the personal plane that has caused her turbulence in recent weeks after POLITICO revealed she used taxpayer money to cover the cost of political travel.

The first-term Democrat said she was very happy she was able to convince her husband to "sell the damn plane."

In a conference call Monday afternoon, McCaskill revealed that after her own review of the plane's records, she had not paid personal property taxes on the aircraft over the past four years.

"I have discovered that the personal property taxes on the plane have not been paid. There should have been a reporting to the county of the existence of this plane. There are people I could blame for this, but I know better. I take full responsibility," McCaskill said to reporters, after revealing she had conducted her own audit of all 89 flights she had taken.

10. I agree.
See ya, Claire. Can't believe folks in power like this still make an "oops" on their tax returns. They should know better.

3. McCaskill has it hard enough (politically, clearly not financially) as it is
Maybe a more populist dem could win, but i fear this seat will go red

4. Claire is a tax cheat, and her husband's business is her interest
in Congress. This statement in which she passively blames others while pretending accountability is revolting. Rich, selfish person who thinks her own taxes are not her responsibility. The plane is just supposed to magically exist for her, without any cost of any kind, no time, no nothing. She just needs to have private air transportation, needs it, wants it, but never had the maturity to pay attention to her own responsibilities.
I am so sick of her sort of arrogant abuse of position. She makes me sick. Four years she slacked on her responsibilities. Will she pay a fine? Probably not a dime. She feels punished for having to take care of her own taxes. She thinks we should feel badly that she's giving up her adored private plane and pilot on retainer. Like a six year old.

5. Don't worry, Claire. You can still get your "love pats" at the airport.

McCaskill will sell 'the damn plane'

by David Catanese

Sen. Claire McCaskill is selling the personal plane that has caused her turbulence in recent weeks after POLITICO revealed she used taxpayer money to cover the cost of political travel.

The first-term Democrat said she was very happy she was able to convince her husband to "sell the damn plane."

.....

Shame on her husband for making her charge taxpayers for her flights on their very own private plane. And neglecting to pay property taxes on the plane for 4 years. :eyes:

McCaskill: "I'm wildly excited ..I can walk through a machine instead of getting my dose of love pats.", November 18, 2010

Missouri, please recall this woman from leadership.

8. Wonder what kind of plane this might be...

with that size of tax bill, must be a Lear or equiv.

Many multiple entries on google, almost all referring to a 'small airplane.' One entry calls it a 'private' plane. Actually, it is a corporate jet owned by a company the McCaskills have an 'interest' in.

Type of aircraft remains unknown. One trip referred to by Ms McCaskill was from St. Louis, MO to Hannibal, MO...a distance of roughly 90 miles. This would not have been an economical trip in a corporate jet.

When are we going to start putting into office, the workers of this country instead of the wealthy sponges we have in office?

Throw the lady out.

9. What a disappointment she's been. I do believe Missouri can elect a better Dem.
At least she's paying back the money owed, but sheesh. I would think she would have known better.
